Should I have told an aquaintance that they may be getting fired?

I heard through a mutual business contact that one of my former co-workers (2 jobs and almost 4 years ago) was going to be fired yesterday afternoon. I haven't spoken to her in years-- but still feel bad that she didn't know. Should I(or someone) have told her? Is it better that I didn't just in case it didn't happen? Or a touchy, embarrassing subject so leave it alone?

"Hey, remember me? Not really? Yeah, I sat over in that one section of the office...anyways, I hope you are doing well. P.S. you're getting fired."

Errrrr yea.

:laugh: Yeah, that's pretty much the way the conversation would've went. OP did well by minding her own business.

your information comes from hear-say....gossip if you will.

what it it's wrong?

what if she gets so pissed and simply walks out? or she looses control and tells the boss what a fucktard she thinks he is?

at the very least there goes a reference.

what if they are canning her for a valid reason? (i.e. she is a thief?)

let it go.

i wouldn't say anything.

What if she goes and talks to her manager who decides that maybe he should fire the big mouth that likes to spread gossip and rumors?

It's not your business to know and if you blab to her she may have some real resentment for everyone in this rumor chain. Not to mention that it might not be true at all.

If she's getting fired, then you shouldn't feel bad that she didn't know because I'm sure she knew, she was just oblivious to the fact that she was a sucky worker.
