getting married, both of us are 21 with clean driving records, both own saturn sedans. always been on my parent's insurance. I'm going to do more research on Saturday but figured I'd ask for opinions. Did some searching on the forums and saw the Geico was pretty decent, so...opinions?

Well it sucked for me and two co-workers. We're all on more local insurance carriers. Alfa is the one I use.

saved about 1/3 on our insurance when we switched... Geico was the lowest I've seen so far.
Apparently, the G in geico stands for gov't
and the e stands for employees...
as a public school teacher, they said I get a bigger discount as a result.

Yep. part of the reason geico was high is because when I first moved here they did not want to consider my canadian driving history, and start me as a new driver. That stuck in my craw, and I refuse to deal with them now.

Geico is cool for me. They are very cheap and have always been very helpful.

I had them as well and State farm was $300 cheaper and I got more coverage.

True, but it is their fault that they've now lost thousands in insurance premiums from me since :)

I don't have Geico, as I went with State Farm (which as someone above pointed out is quite a bit cheaper) but I got into an accident with someone who had Geico a few years back. He ran a red and hit my car in the rear passenger side as I was going through the intersection (which in itself was odd as I wasn't even the first car at the stoplight when our light turned green). We exchanged pleasantries and license/insurance info. A day or two later, Geico called me, then sent an inspector out to look at my car. I dropped it off at the local body shop a day or two after that. They faxed a copy of the bill directly to Geico. Geico cut me a check a few days later, about the same time my car was ready at the shop. All in all, a nice experience as I didn't do anything with my own insurance company, other than report the accident.

I had Geico for a while. They were the least expensive when I got with them, but they raised their rates every six months. The first time they did it, it went up like 30%!

I never made a claim, I didn't get any tickets or violations, and my truck was like 15 years old so I didn't understand why my rate kept going up. I'd call to ask and they'd somehow recalculate my rate so it'd be in line with what I had paid during the previous six months.

I was tired of it by the time I got a new car and dropped them.

If your driving record is clean, you might look at Amica and AAA. They've been the least expensive for me in recent years.

As I said in another thread:
"I see allot of people here claiming geico saved them money but that was not my experience with them. I had geico for 7 years without a claim or ticket, then I got a ticket for 10mph over and a few months later got a letter from geico literally scolding me like I was there child and saying they will give me another chance and not raise my rate. I dropped them that day and went with American Family. To my surprise I get better coverage with a 50% drop in rate. This may be a isolated deal but that was my experience. "

I have a pretty terrible record and just had to get my own insurance, it turned out progressive was the cheapest for me, even though everyone told me they'd probably be really expensive.

I personally would not get geico insurance but if its signficantly cheaper I would consider it.
