Should i go retail or OEM for a new HDD???

i bought a oem ibm from buy.com and it brought a 3 year manufacturer warranty, and the ibm is quieter

if this is a replacement hdd then you should already have ide cable & screws so go OEM. in any case those items are quite cheap.

if you want quiet and fast go with the ibm, pretty cheap at newegg.com
edit btw i dont think the oem ibm brings a ide cable and screws either, at least i dont remember mine bringing any.

I personally would go for the OEM becuase it is cheaper and do you REALLY want to pay extra for teh IDE cable which can be obtained for a fraction of the price? and the HDD are teh same, carry same waranty, carry the same components, so no diff apart from the price..

i have a maxtor 15.3 GB ATA100....never EVER hear it....not above the power supply fan, at least.....

hmm...never heard anyone complain about hard drive noise, that wasn't expeiencing hard drive problems...

Sorry not true, This warranty agreement issue only applies to prebuilt machines like Micron And Dell that are using IBM drives. I have never bought a retail box drive in my life and have had no problems RMA back a Sh@tload these dreaded 75 GXP drives with IBM.

All the below drives were bought as new, plain brown box drives except the two that are listed as OEM. They were 'refurbs' and are obviously &quot;system pulls&quot;. IBM's no warranty on OEM may be confusing, but it basically is: if the drive is sold to a manufacturer i.e. HP, Dell, Compaq, etc, it is labeled on the drives bios as OEM and will not be covered by IBM.
