But in answer to your question, OSPF can be told to generate it's own default gateway based on some calculations.

router(config-router)#default-information originate <always> metric <value>

This route WILL be resdistributed into IGRP or RIP or whatever else you are using for a routing protocol as long as you have redistrib turned on.

I tried it on "the rack" and I can't make it work.
I talked to both CCIE's in the office and a couple of the
guys in router support that I respect and got the same answer:
Dog don't hunt.

If you want to take this offline,
feel free to e-mail me at dougl@speakeasy.org
After all, hijacking a thread is a crime! :)

Yep, I know. sucks.

that however is a question that three CCIEs I know had to do in the lab.
they couldn't get it to work either.

default-information originate command with OSPF is more related to how OSPF treats a default route. The trick is to get IGRP to accept it. tried everything in my home lab and notta.

oh well, chalk that up to "gonna miss it...don't care"

<edit> hijacking a thread? Maybe...but since there are a few fellas looking at CCIE maybe we should post the challenge of the day? god, i have way to much time on my hands.

:(

my lack of hands on experience has clearly shone through today during the CIT test.
Needless to say it will be atleast a week before i attempt that test again. I need to practice more on my routers hands on. :(
I managed to score 70-80% on three of the categories but i got completely killed ( 0% :| on connectionless protocols)

I am most disappointed in myself. :(
well i guess i'll go crawl back into my hole now.
