Here is my current system :

Duron 750 @ 950 Mhz
MSI K7T Turbo-R
256 MB generic
ATI Radeon LE
burner, cdrom, hard drive, etc

For 50$ CDN I could swap my motherboard and my ram for an EPOX EP-8K7A and a 256 MB of DDR ram Stick.

Would you do that move ? And why?

I would go DDR if I had a Palomino. Prefetch takes advantage of DDR in a big way, so performance boosts are noticeable. Since it's only a Duron, I would suggest you wait and spend the $50 later on when it will provide more bang for the buck. You will get a performance boost if you switch DDR, but it probably wouldn't be worth it. If another 5% or so is worthwhile to you, then go for it!

Go DDR anyway. It costs the same as SDR at Crucial and boards are the same price as SDR boards. Go get some, it's the RAM of the future. The best DDR board is EPoX 8K7A+ for ocing, or MSI K7 Master for non-ocing.
