Would you mind sharing your Newegg component list with us so we can compare specs?

Also, what do you plan to use this new system for?

If you want to save some more money use one of the athlon xp's. They are great processors for the price and would save you some dough over your setup.

Emachines are bad. They're cheap-o computers, you'd be better off spending the extra 50 dollars to get better parts.

Thats the thing, if I wanted to build a good Intel setup(ie one with quality parts), it would cost me ~$700 which is $100 more then the emachines. Then I could overclock it and get a couple hundred mhz but then I would be missing out on all the software that is included in the Emachine.

like someone else said, none of that SOFTWARE they are giving you is worth anything. It's all trial versions you can download yourself, You are only getting Windows XP Home edition, nothing else so don't let that be part of your decision.

Most Emachines I have worked with scare me. Usually so many corners cut. And on the rig from New Egg you did not include a video card. The Video on that Emachines is built in Intel Extreme graphics and if you are going to play any demanding games at all it will be almost worthless.

So I should just build my own for $600? Thats whats seems to be what most of you are hinting at...

Also, what is the next step for Intel after the prescott? Is it a desktop version of the Pentium M or a dual core processor?

EDIT: I Cleaned Up The Newegg cut and paste

dude, those trial ver softwares aren't even worth it. who uses MS Money! i have like a 2000, and a 2002 copy sitting around that were never used, they came with PCs too. did you pay attn to the GFX on that emachines? its just like what dell did to my stupid friend, they'll use all sorts of "high-end" components, then they'll screw you over with the [barf] Intel Integrated Extreme Graphics 2 [/barf] the thing even has pitiful 2D Performance. since you want a good price point, build this instead buddy. its the same price as the emachines, actually has a real GFX card, most likely has a much better power supply (emachines tends to cheap out in that region ALOT. and did i mention this one actually contains a floppy drive (unlike your newegg or emachines config), a video card (your newegg config even lacks an onboard video chip), Roxio EZ CD Creator (there's some software, Power DVD and a game (come with the GFX card) amongs other things. also, the true price of this config is 822.97 b/c of the -25 with the free farcry deal (there's smore software for ya)

all in all, you have a better, cheaper, more reliable rig, there really isn't much to argue with. not to mention newegg's great service and RMA policy.

I personally would go with the eMachines. The three that I've owned have been great computers.

Yeah, Compaq had an Athlon64 line for a short time also, until HP decided to move it into the Pavilion line (and they discontinued the Presario one).

That machine is totally ridiculous. It's a $219 CPU with Intel Extreme Graphics II onboard video!!!

Intel's integrated graphics are about 3X worse than nForce integrated graphics, which is only as fast as a Radeon 9200.

Tom's Integrated VGA benchmarks

It would cost $575 to make that machine yourself using generic memory and a generic case, so I suppose you could say it's a decent deal. If you wanted that machine, it would be a great deal.

The problem is that if you're just talking about building something on a $500 budget, you could come up with something with better parts that was better suited to your needs, whatever those needs may be.

just for the heck of it I fired up a Intel 2.53Ghz 533 Bus system with 1Gig CAS2 PC3200 Ram but with Intel Extreme Graphics. I played a few games or shall I say tried to, GTA3 at 1024x768x32 was unplayable. It took me 1 minute to even start to walk to my car. I can play that game smooth as silk with the same system but with an ATI Radeon 9600SE in the AGP 8X slot. The 9600 SE is the one with the ram running at 64 bits and it at any resolution I tried is smooth. With the Intel Extreme Graphics I had to lower it to 640x480 and even then the game was jerky but I could play it but lost a level I never lose. My old Duron 700 with a Radeon 7000 AGP is WAY faster in games than the 2.53 Ghz P4 with Intel Extreme Graphics and I am not exgerating in the least.

Do yourself a favor and don't get that E-Machines if you do ANY 3d stuff and especially any modern game.

You never said what you wanted to do with your new system. The Intel Extreme Graphics are ok for Internet surfing, Word Processing, CD burning and non demanding stuff that does not use 3d but any real demanding 3d app or game will drag and make the system seem like an old PII.

You shouldn't shy away people from buying pre-built computers. I have my eye on a Presario s6300nx computer from compusa.com. It's only $450, so I can use another $50 for a Radeon 8500 video card, if I don't want to use it for games, or spend even more for a Radeon 9800PRO, for hardcore games. Then I'd be able to invite friends over for deathmatches!

Edit: I'm being to wonder if you people actually read my posts...I've said this twice already, I can get that emachines for $600

I already have a Ti4400 so my gaming needs are satisfied for now. The card is probably seriously being held back by my Sony pc with pc133 ram and willamette p4...

Anyways, I'm more concerned for bang for the buck. It seems its hard to beat tthat emachines especially if it has an agp slot.

see, you aren't sure of that (AGP slot, or no?), thats why i love building my own pcs, but if you can get it for 600, thats a good deal, although let me remind you, many i865(the one with Intel Integrated Extreme GFX II) boards do not have an agp slot, although some do, if it doesn't, you'll be limited to a GeForce FX 5200 PCI :(

I just finished some research and this Emachine does have an agp slot. So my question still remains, is this a good deal($600) for a speedy computer or can I do better by building?
