Well Ive had a lot of problems with my BFG asylum 5900nu for the past 3 weeks and am simply trying to get it replaced or returned as it is defective and full of artifacts. Im told that this process will take longer than expected. So im condsidering a better brand of the same card. I am thinking of ordering an XFX 5900 from newegg.com as they have it for 199$ only. Is this XFX card better than BFG and more reliable?? PLs advise..

thanks

yea i paid 220 to someone who had bought it brand new (BFG). HE never used it until now , thats when i bought it from him and checked it was full of artifacts. Its not his fault he never used the card.....he seems to have trouble finding his reciept and so im returnin it to him and ill make him buy this card for me so he can ship it to me in canada.

I have exact card, got from buy.com tho for 177 AFR a few weeks ago tho. The bottom of the card(part with fan) doesn't get hot what so ever, while the top with the RAM, seems pretty warm to the touch after i shutdown, but it runs perfectly stable, i ordering 512mb 3200 ram and Halo over weekend, so if it does good in that, i'll prolly overclock a bit, get all i can outa the puppy

I am pretty sure it should be 800mhz not 850 because the card is what is known as 5900 NU Value which has 400mhz GPU and 700mhz RAM (2.86ns)

the Company simply overlocked the Ram to 800mhz at the factory, thats how you have 400/800 card for $200 and they simply called it 5900 NU

I read a couple articles saying how some companies including EVGA, XFX, Creative sell the 5900 cards 400/700 at 400/800 to the final consumer.

But then again some people report how they overclock these cards to Ultra and 5950 Ultra speeds so i am wondering if some of these cards actually do come with 850mhz memory (2.2ns) and some dont (luck of the draw?) or if some websites report the memory incorrectly.

Still I am more likely to believe the above exlanation of factory overclocked memory.

^^ Well if thse card as you say have been overclocked to 800mhz from 700mhz , then why are there the costiler 5900 nus that have clock frequency of 400 but memory of 850mhz??? In this case should i go for the card with more memory?..ie ithe 850 memory core speed cardds???

The default memory clock for 5900nu's is 800mhz, 850mhz is the default for 5900ultra's. The xfx 5900nu is a true nu with 2.2ns memory @ 800mhz, not the cheaper 5900se with 2.8ns memory @ 700mhz.

The xfx is supposed to have 2.2ns ram clocked at 800mhz. Since it's 2.2ns, it should overclock well; past 900mhz easily. Some have gotten their ram close to 1ghz.

I'm running my xfx @460core, 970 mem with no probs what so ever. It DOES have 2.2ns chips :)

Huh, obviously you're right. I installed the card and the ref drivers and it shows up at 400/850 in Coolbits. Weird. Autodetect claims it can do 479/1000, but I have a hard time believing that ;) It'll be interesting to test out what it will actually do.

Someone explained the picture in another thread. Apparently the pic on the XFX site is the 5900U. The picture of the card on newegg is what it actually looks like (and I can confirm that).

i dont belive the xfx model is any better or any worse the the bfg model i think they are on par with one another. both have 2.2 memory which in my opinion is most important. pick the one whos retail package is better for you.

The XFX FX5900nu adapter I received from Newegg came with the free artifacts at POST.

XFX NVIDIA® Geforce FX 5900 128MB DDR Video Card, Model PV-T35K-NA V2.2

It is becoming apparent that these adapters are 400/700 oc'd to 400/800. My system barfed with tis adapter in it. Massive artfacts at POST (complete screen corruption, not just little segmented lines). I have RMA'd the adapter back to Newegg for a replacement, but I just sent them an email to confirm that they will not be sending me some oc'd piece of poo (wanted to use another word). The XFX Support team will not respond when asked about the problems. Their policy is to ignore any inquiries into a defective adapter. I will be doing battle with Newegg for a complete refund to purchase a different adapter. I would personally stay away from the XFX FX5900 until XFX corrects their mistake.
