should i get the sony rx1 full frame?

looking for a pocket-able replacement for my 5d mark 2.
i see the sony rx1 is at least $2800. holy cow! is there an alternative for small compact full frame? i dont need crazy zoom, between 16-55mm is fine.

The Leica Q is the only other full frame alternative to the RX1, and I would pick that over the RX1 any day even though it's more expensive - better lens, better viewfinder, better AF. Keep in mind that I wouldn't consider either to be pocketable.

If you want pocketable you can jump down to compact crop sensor cameras. The Fuji X100 series is a fan favorite. This camera is still a bit on the large side but *almost* pocketable - more-so than the full frame cameras that's for sure. The Ricoh GR is another one of these, and it is definitely pocketable! Check these out. They are both great cameras for the money.

The Fuji X stuff is seriously nice. I compared the X-T1 in store to the newer DSLRs as well as the Sony full frame mirrorless and IMO it comes out far ahead. Lots of samples available online, such as in the fredmiranda.com Fuji section in the forums ... IQ is fantastic and all the lenses are excellent, particularly the primes and higher end zooms.

A 1.5 crop factor sensor with 23mm f/1.4 lens is roughly equal in FOV and depth of field to the linked 35mm f/2.

I use the 16 and 23mm f/1.4 lenses and am about to add the 56 f/1.2 next time they hold a sale (usually about three times per year) on my X-T1. The x-t2 is out now with another 8MP and improved high ISO performance ... getting pretty close to full frame ISO performance.

oh yea, i should mention i want it to do videos too!
i got the olympus MFT em5 but selling it now on ebay because video quality is poor and not full manual control.
checking out all your suggested cams now...

By your requirements it doesn't look like the rx1 will suit you. While it is a compact full frame camera it has a fixed 35mm lens. No zoom (only digital zoom) and no lens swapping. It's not exactly pants pocketable and its video, while 1080p, isn't anything to write about either. AF will be usable but a dog compared to your 5d. No built-in VF so essentially it's an ultra expensive P&S. The RX1R II addressed a few of the performance limitations but it ain't cheap at $3900.

yeah, you are right. and the price is laughable.
i might as well save up and get the ARii. the size is very reasonable yet powerful as any other full frame.
