cable is NOT an option,- i would love to get comcast/adelphia-but its not available in my area-my cable provider only has a basic package.

now, i've had directv for 10 years, but i feel like, i can get a better price with dish,(since i am no longer willing to pay for the NFL ticket)

right now i have basic package, local channels, and HBO. (pay $82/mo)
they want a ridicous amount of $ to upgrade to HD,(i recently got an HDTV-)

so hows dish? is there such a thing with them as an HD-DVR?

how much more do they get for HD?

reliability?(my DirecTV does NOT go out unless the ground is litterly shaking from thunder/rain)

That's wrong. My next door neighbor has HD with Dish and only has one dish.

Edit: actually, you might have to have 2 dishes, depending on where you live.

Yep.

The DTV rep that came out to see if I could receive it or not told me that DTV is going to buy Dish. First I'd heard of it.

How much do they want to charge to upgrade to HD? I got my HD DVR for $20 which includes a dish upgrade. Keep calling and you'll talk to the right person.

I agree with xchangx- call............ and talk to retentions. ONLY the retention department. I agreed to another 12 months of Directv and they came out gave me a new dish, and gave me a new hd dvr-- For free (at first they said $299). I hooked up an ota antenna to the dvr and it works great. 2 tuners hd dvr including recording ota hd.
