should i get pentium 930?

i currently have the pentium 640 and im wondering if i should spend some money and buy the pentium 930 or i should just wait because its not that big enough difference especially with conroe on its way out.

and would the 930 even work with my mother board? its an intel mother board and its obviously a 775 socket. or is there more to consider than socket type? its also made for the EE editions btw.

You have to consider more than it just being the same socket. Not all boards will support dual cores, let alone 65nm dual cores, so we would have to know the exact motherboard. Do you run anything that would take advantage of a dual core? photoshop? video encoding? or any other SMP aware application? If not, you aren't really likely to see any benifit from going dual core.

925 chipset boards don't support dual cores.
 
if you really want to upgrade, wait for conroe, then get the cheapest dual core conroe on a mid-range board, and odds are it will leave your 640 in the dust.

yep, looks like thats what ill do 🙂 no point wasting money now. my pc is pretty fast for what i do. when is conroe expected to release?

True. However, I would think it would be just a matter of time before one would start using multithreaded applications, if one is not already using them. Many, if not most, apps that are single-threaded are being rewritten to take advantage of dual-core. Also, wouldn't someone see some improvement in the UI if they were multitasking and running mutliple programs at one time?

See this thread where someone built an 630 and 820 and found the 820 significantly more responsive doing basic stuff.
