Should I get Noctua U12P or Mugen 2?

I want to put my old mugen I in my server, and Iam aiming for silence, so right now my Mugen I runs with a Yate Loon @ 800rpm.

But should I get a Noctua or Scythe Mugen 2 ? The Noctua is abit more expensive and I am not sure if its worth it.

I run 3.4Gz on my Q6600 atm.

Just get this. You'll be fine & you'll save some money too.
I've had the Noctua...it's back in its' box now under my desk. I wasn't impressed with its' cooling capabilities on my Q6700.

I have a Noctua on my 9650 @ 3.8, single stock fan and temps are mid 60's under IBT. Prime and it is low 60's. I love it and I think it has a great mounting system.

Assembly is a bit complicated though 🙂

But less frustrating the trying to mount a new TRUE ultra eXtreme...I hated that damn x-bar...and the Noctua comes with those really nice brown fans that we all love...

Those 9650's run a little cooler than a 66/6700, tho, yes?
Currently I have a QX6700 @ 3.3 & at load, it hits 70, but that's w/an unreleased CoolerMaster push/pull cooler.
I think the Noctua would be a couple of degrees higher. At least it was when I had my Q6700 @ 3.3 w/a Xigmatek and temporarily switched to a Noctua.

I have Q9550 @ 3.8GHz @ 1.215v, Load is around 78C with fan on 500rpm, when I turn all the fan up, its around 65-67C @ 1300rpm

I lap every cpu I have...I have always found it to be worth 3-5c...sometimes even more.

Wow! That's pretty impressive!
Kinda scary, though, thinking about taking a $200+ cpu to the sandpaper...hehehe

I never lap a chip for the first month or so...I make sure the chip is working and can take what little stress I throw at it first. Once I know I'm keeping the chip, time to break out the glass and paper and start sanding...

It's safe as long as you are careful...I'm getting ready to do my i7 this week...looking for a nice improvement from it.
