I'm leaving for Vegas this Friday, and I just checked my tires and realize that they have very little tread left. It's pretty much bare on part of the tire that touches the ground, and the sides have a little more... maybe a couple centimeters, max.

Would it be a good idea to invest in new tires before Friday, or will I be okay there and back?

EDIT: If it turns out I do, could you please recommend some? I'll need to buy them today after work or tomorrow during my lunch break!

Goto Costco. You might need realignment too, so you don't ruin your new tires. Stick with GoodYear, Michellin, etc.

If you're hurting for cash, PeP Boys. They always have some kind of deal for generic tires.

Thank you... the problem is, there's no tread for me to insert the penny into. :(

Dang. I would get new tires...if you don't and if it rains, you're in trouble.

I have Bridgestone Weatherforce all-seasons on my car..if I drove like a grandma, they'd be fine. For me, they don't have anywhere near enough traction...but what do you expect from something rated for 65k.. :p

Rain is definitely in the forecast this weekend... in both Los Angeles AND Vegas.

Gah... I'm going to Costco TODAY, right after work. What set of tires would work out best for a 2001 Honda Civic coupe, and how much should I expect to spend?

You have 14 inch tires I believe, 35 to 60 a piece at Costco depending on the brand. You still might need an alignment, I'm not sure Costco are qualified to tell you.

Tires are EXPENSIVE, even at Costco. Is there any discount tire store in LA I might be able to purchase tires from?

I'm not 110% sure what an alignment is... will Costco take care of that if I do buy my tires from them?

Well, how much is your life to you for good tires then?

Pep boys then probably under 150 for all the tires. You still might need an alignment. Costco doesn't do alignment.

Quick reply for alignment, makes your car go straight so your tires don't run unevenly and one tire wears out more.

True. I was just surfing the Costco website though, and they suggested some Michelin tires for $140 apiece. :(

I can handle $150 for all the tires! Maybe I'll go to Pep Boys first.. thanks newbiepcuser... :)

Costco had a $60 off coupon for select tires in June. It's actually a pretty good deal because lifetime rotation is included.

Those are their high rated performance tires.

Dezign, online store doesn't reflect their actual store, call them!!!!

Also, if you're in the Chinese mood, go haggle with Sears, and ask them what they can do for you compared to Costco.

I think you need alignment, thats another 70 bucks.

Just got off the phone with them... ugh! I was just looking them up online, tons of bad reviews (lots of blowouts, etc.). Maybe I should just go to Costco. :( I wish I had that June coupon, though...

Futura sucks. Don't know if you have a Sams card but you might want to check out Goodyear Allegras - they're entry level tires and they have great grip for $55 per tire. Walmart also carries an entry level Goodyear if some sort but I forgot the name of it.
