I like it, but it runs like *crap* with my Radeon. I'm at level 10 now. It's a bit linear, but it is a game.

I didn't think it was too great. Some nice technical qualities like rotatable camera angles a la Dungeon Siege, but the game itself was incredibly ho-hum. By mid-game your character is a tank, untouchable by all normal enemies and cabable of knocking off the bosses without much sweat. Your henchmen are complete dolts, uncontrollable and prone to getting themselves killed by charging into groups of enemies you don't want to fight while providing no help against the people you do want to fight. The story is dull and the ending unsatisfying. Sadly the expansion was more of the same, dimwitted henchmen, a mediocre story and enemies who can barely hurt your feelings let alone cause damage to your body.

I just started playing it on my old computer which is a 700mhz Duron, 32MB GeForce2 MX, and 384MB RAM. It runs pretty smoothly but I have to run it at low res with most of the graphic options turned off.

It's a fun game, and you can do whatever you want with it with the "DM" feature.

Nope, I thought Baldur's Gate 2 was incredible. It had some annoyances to be sure and combat was the exact opposite of Neverwinter Nights, many many battles that were incredibly hard to win. That to me made it more satisfying as winning a major battle meant you accomplished something while in NWN it was more like "Yawn, bring on the next 100 enemies". I think that and the party control were the big things. While in NWN your henchman was generally more trouble than he was worth, in BG2 party management was critical. Most of the major fights involved careful use of buff spells, healing spells, offensive magic, defensive magic and brute force. It was very tactical and if you didn't think your way through you were cooked.

I managed to play BG2 on XP Pro with no troubles, have you tried Biowares help forums? Likely it's just a driver issue that's causing you trouble.

I agree with most of the comments here:

BG2 had a WAY better storyline, and in some ways was more fulfulling overall. I got way frustrated at the difficulty of many of the battles.

NWN has a ho-hum storyline, and yes it is linear. There are many many side quests and truth be told you can probably make it through with just your main character. I'm through Ch2 and have a pretty bad-a$$ed monk myself! IMHO nwn is infinately more playable because of the online capabilities.

Yup. I have it at 800x600 and it still skips a lot, especially out doors. I have most of the video options turned off. 1800+, 1.25GB DDR, SCSI drive, and it still skips. BF42 runs great at 1600x1200 with 4xAA. I don't understand it.

I've noticed the same thing... 9700 pro, barton 3200+, 512mb ddr400, and I can't play 1024x768 without it skipping a bit sometimes for no reason... not sure if it is the vid card, or if it is just coded bad... first game I've tried that I can't play 16x12 with 8x aa and 16x af, hehe

Yeah, BG2 is vastly superior to NWN, but NWN isn't bad on it's own. It's entertaining to play, IMHO.

Agree'd,

I like BG2 much more than NWN. NWN has been a disappointment and SOU is pretty much more of the same. I'm playing it only because my local online game buddies are playing it together. Either DnD wasn't ready for 3D, or Bioware dropped the ball, or both. NWN is bad, just ho hom.

If its boring and too easy in NWN, then go and find an expert map from the massive archive of 1000s of maps. It's the adventure map not the engine that makes a game enjoyable. The main storyline is dumbed down to appease the whimps. The custom maps are another story.

There are a few women who like CRPG's and DnD games... but my casual observations lead me to believe that the propensity for this kind of interest in women is linked to the obesity gene. I've rarely seen a skinny pretty girl who likes CRPGs and DnD gaming... very rarely ;)
