Should i get linux?

I have been hearing about linux for a lot of time. A couple of friends told me that it was an excellent operating system, however they don't have it installed. I use my computer mainly for low end gaming (NFS Porsche, IWD, BG2, Freelancer). What can i expect from linux?, whats better about it compared to Windows (XP and 9X)?, are there any problems regarding the drivers?, it is linux compatible with DOS the way win9X is?, stability?, interface?, speed?, reliability?, general software compatibility?, support?.

I guess that a lot of you are well versed in this matter and i will apreciate any advice.

Only switch to Linux if you want something that is in Linux. That means if you want Unix and the applications on it.

Personally I don't give much about Wine and Winex's ability to run Windows apps. Disappointed once too often.

try a dual boot and see how you like it. if you don't want to install try a live cd like knoppix.
a whole system with just booting on cd.

In all seriousness, just dual boot and try it. Start with something east like redhat and if you like it more power to you. I cant see any reason for me to use it.
