By your fscked in the head logic, the poor bastard that mopped the floors at Enron is just as accountable and responsible for cooking the books as the CEO's in charge of the company.

That's the analogy you use, but I have fscked in the head logic?
rolleye.gif
I'm agreeing with macmouse on this one. Enron is at fault because they effed consumers by cooking the books, while they managed a necessary commodity: energy. The floor mopper had nothing to do accounting's bad judgment and book cookery. pr0n sells an effing commodity through private companies, and faces a different moral dilemma.

Moral issue aside. You should ask your parent for permission to take this job if you are intended to it, because you are living under their roof.

Everyone was so quick to assume that it's going to be female porn. What if it's male gay porn? Would you still be so quick to jump on this 'dream job'? I know I wouldn't.

So don't do it freebee. Money isn't as important as your pride, morality or whatever else you may lose.

Wow, that's alot of power to give a little web coding in his own house. Maybe your pride and morality are a little weaker than most peoples though.

That's a strong statement from your earlier sentiment:

Yeah, since I don't see a problem with doing some web coding for a legal business from home you're going to question my character? Bah....there's nothing wrong with coding sites for adult entertainment and if something like that could completely change your personality you didn't really have one to begin with.

Now they treat women like sex objects and strictly that. I ask them why and their only answer is "all women are pigs."

This may not happen to you but watchout.

That's not a problem with the job. That's a problem with your friends being f@cked up in the head. No offense.
I'm sure no one pried their eyes open and made them watch the pr0n shoots. Right?

- M4H

No offense taken, since they aren't my good friends. They do call me to go to a strip club or get hookers all the time. I think they're getting the hint I'm not interested.

No, they didn't have to watch what's going on. Their reasons:
Most of the girls that came in had boyfriends, fiancees and even husbands. There was an untold amount that would express secrecy about not having the men find out. Then they would come and get it from 5-8 men in one day then go home smiling to their hubbies. That is gross. The reasons some of them did it? So they could buy expensive purses shoes, clothes. What they would tell their husbands is that it's a knockoff and got it for 5 bucks instead of telling the truth.
Those are only a few of many examples I was told. There's many more.

What those guys say to me kinda makes sense to me after awhile, but I don't want to make that life choice.

Since pay to view porn sites are so popular on the web I'm sure you could find just as many exmples of selfish men spending money on porn sites that they could be using to support their families, anybody who thinks that this makes "all men pigs" is just as screwed up in the head as your buddies are.

That said,it seems as if the OP has enough other hesistations to make this a job he should pass on.

I would.

Then again I'm in a different situation than you are. I'm 20, live with a roomate, and am looking to break in to the computer industry fully (I'm the Network Admin for 5 computers now. Woooo.... ;) ).

As for your morals, it depends on if you find the subject matter to be immoral. That's the nasty thing about relave morality. I feel that if they are consenting adults, that there is no problem, as long as the content is legal.

Good luck, whatever happens. I'm sure you'll make the right decision.

I agree. Since you live under your parents roof, you owe it to them. If they don't have a problem with it, go for it.

Yea, my buddies are screwed up, the women that I mentioned aren't.

How in the world did you turn this around to men paying for porn sites? Please stay on the subject and keep your own itinerary out of it.

Hate to break it to you but like I'll need to repeat, they did want to go about the normal fall in love get married type BS. Working for the pron industry changed them for the worst. I did have the opportunity to work with them since it was one of the guys that started the pron site and got the other friends in. I'm glad I did not. Why? I'd be embarrassed to tell people what I do.

To the people that mentioned that they'd do this job in an instant. Once you worked for pron would you have any reservations at all mentioning what you do to a friend, family, date? If so you're a hypocrite and think before you post.

Here lies exactly my point. YOU ARE NOT YOUR EMPLOYER. I work for a company that owns a bunch of a fast food restaurants and several stores of a VERY prominent donut. We make our money off of people eating complete and utter trash that really have no need to eat. It makes them fat, it raises their cholesterol, it increases chances of diabetes, ect. I think obesity is one of the greatest problems this country has. Yet, I don't let it bother me. I'm not holding a gun to somebody's head making them eat that dozen donuts. I'm not forcing anyone to supersize their fries or have that second sandwich. I don't have troubles sleeping at night knowing that I'm contributing to the fall of our society because of our inability to suppress our appetites.

Same goes for this situation. All he's doing is making a webpage. He's not filming the content. He's not directing the shoot. He's not slapping a woman around with his manhood. He's not telling a woman to do this or do that for $$. He's not forcing that guy to pay that monthly subscription.

He's doing a job. He provides a template for someone else to use. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Herein lies your problem. You cannot discern the difference.

I'll give you an example:

VI on a date:

Girl: What do you do?
VI: I'm in marketing at Krispy Kreme donuts.
WHAT YOU WOULD NOT SAY:
VI: I'm in marketing at a major food retailer.

On same date different job:

Girl: What do you do?
VI: I'm a webdesigner. I make webpages.
Girl: Oh really? Who for?
VI: Uhhhh uhhhh...........
WHAT YOU WOULD NOT SAY:
VI: I'm a webdesigner. I make webpages for porn sites.

If you do not see this scenario as coming to fruition, I say you're full of baloney. If you do not, then I give up since it appears you are non-sensical in this area.

As bad as the dot.com situation has been a web designer that can announce that he's actually employed might be the most shocking news of all

Actually I would say that. If somebody takes offense to it, it's their problem, not mine. Most people that know me know that I pretty much speak my mind and don't beat around the bush.

Same here, I wouldn't have any trouble with it. I may not volunteer the information to my mom. But there's plenty of other things mom doesn't need to know about either.

Being a web developer, I just asked my fiance if I could do such a job (making her believe I was offered it) and she didn't even give a "NO". It was more like... "are you kidding me ?!"

Well, I think that tells you something... but it's entirely up to you, if you don't care about what ANYONE else thinks, do it for the money. In your situation and surroundings, freebee... I would never do it...

Vi_gf doesn't have a bush? ;) lol

I'm with you, I really don't give a rats ass what people think. I would do the work, sounds like easy money. Of course I'm not young and living at home.

It comes down to would you be comfortable working with porn?

If you are concerned with what your parents would say I would TALK TO THEM. The worst they can say is no and then you have your answer. I know some people that sell sex toys and gels and creams as a wholesale distributer (they sell to audult book stores) Nicest people you ever met. In this day and age one must not only look at your clinetel. Hel I cater to doctors and other in the medical profession and I would much rather have the gel people over to watch my kids then some of the people I cater to.:Q

Remember that your job does no define who you are but the quality of work does. If you are ashamed of the work you do you will find it very difficult to be happy. Just soemthing to think about.

I agree that the job does not define someone. I have a good friend who is an engineer and I like to tease her about the stereotypes; she always reminds me "It's what I do, it's not what I am."

On the other hand, I could not feel good about myself doing a job like that. And if someone wouldn't do it for a normal wage, but would accept the job for a huge salary, that's just selling yourself out.

It's like a woman who reluctantly admits that she would sleep with someone for a million dollars, but gets indignant when offered the same deal for only one dollar and sneers, "Do you think I'm a whore?"

Well, that's already been established; the rest is just haggling about the price.

I don't know about freebee's asian parents, but I would NEVER be comfortable even mentioning girls to my parents (and I'm 24). I kinda eased into introducing my g/f to them... but we don't so much as discuss "girls I like", etc...

Also, I see guys bringing along their dads to bachelor parties with strippers... that would not happen in a million and a half years in my family. I think it's definitely a culture thing for asians.

Strange, I just did my first erotic photoshoot (I was the photographer ;)). Strange experience, paid well, and I'll be doing it again in a couple weeks. I was very nervous before going, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just keep it professional, and don't let it go to your *head*, and you'll be fine.

No, they have permits for it. And it wasn't hardcore, only partial to mostly nude.

Edit: I think the only illegal thing is operating an adult materials publishing company, but since I'm not publishing it comercially, it's not illegal.
