Should I get GTX260 OC now or way for GTX260 216 to drop

First of all, I game at 1920x1200 and play most popular good games outside of Crysis (waiting for hardware that will allow me to max it).

Basically, there are a lot of really good deals on the original GTX260, such as this one:

This card comes with CoD4 and has 11% OC. At the same time, GTX260 Core 216, non-OC starts at $279.99, and it goes over $300 for OCed versions. Do you guys think it's worth it to wait for more Core 216 cards to come out and the price to drop or should I just get that XFX card since it's a great deal and Core 216 offers only an incremental improvement that cannot be seen outside of benchmarks, especially compared to OCed original GTX260?

You will be fine with the original 260. I wouldnt sweat the extra shaders.

look for an open box deal. i got an MSI GTX 260 for $219 last week & it was still sealed/ never opened! a few days ago i saw an open box MSI 260 for under 200

go to the hot deals section, I've seen several gtx 260's for $219 AR brand new, even a few for $209 with a free game included lately.

I was going to get the 260, but money is tight and was curious in the older 9 series, so I looked back at some previous anand articles and noticed the 9800 GX2 scored a bit higher than even the 280 in a few (or all games) tested. Did my research and won the following card on eBay for $257.

But I see now Newegg has dropped the price today from $290 to $275.

Just something to consider.

No way am I gona deal with SLI issues of x2 cards...just not worth it imo.

You should also keep an eye on the 4870 1GB cards...
At $299, Anand's article calls it "The Card to Get" right now.

Well it took longer than I thought for someone to do that.

Anyway just grab the vanilla 260 and OC it yourself if it is a good deal. They OC extremely easy, and the new OC programs are very user friendly.

If thats not something you want to do, then find the cheapest factory OC.

Ended up getting the XFX OCed card. I actually considered 4870 1GB, but they are a good deal more expensive right now, without really dramatic performance advantage. Also the ATI cards have much higher power consumption at idle than NVIDIA ones. Plus the whole fan speed issue. So I decided on the factory-OCed NVIDIA card.

Nice choice ! I'm leaning towards the vanilla XFX model for a better price, and thinking of buying a second to SLI if the option seems feasible for gaming needs.

Yeah I looked at their vanilla card too. Got the OCed one because it includes CoD4, which I don't have, so with the game and factory OC, $269.99 after MIR seemed like a good deal.

He he -- it is now listed as out-of-stock, comes with (from the pic) Assassin's Creed, and is only $230 after the rebate.

I can't wait for it to arrive. I chose this over the newer 216s because the performance difference is fairly small and I only game at 1680x1050 anyway. I wanted a card that could give decent frame rates with AA turned on.
