Should I get Battlefield BC 2 if.......

I'm thinking about getting a second online FPS (already own MAG) and I narrowed it down to Battlefield BC 2 for some reasons.

1. I'm not a huge FPS fan, I really enjoy MAG though because of the teamwork required and epic action.
2. I rented Modern Warfare 2 and I hated it, I didn't like the way the community plays the game. Too many grenade launchers and campers.
3.I'm also cautious because I realize that Medal of Honor and COD Black Ops are coming out, and I don't plan on buying them, I just don't know if the Battlefield BC 2 community will jump ship to MOH and Black Ops.

I'd appreciate any comments.

I wouldn't expect MoH to be that big. Black Ops will be where Modern Warfare players go. You know what, I didn't like MW2 at ALL when I first played it. My roommate rented it and it pissed me off when I played it. Grenade launchers, harriers, and knifers oh my! But I couldn't stop playing and eventually bought it.

If you don't like grenade launchers in MW2, you'll hate BC2. The walls won't protect you, and you will have far worse than just a grenade launcher. Tactically my favorite shooter in this generation was Rainbow Six Vegas. It's getting old now but you might want to check it out.

IMO the difference between BC2 and MW2 is definitely the teamwork aspect. In MW2 you're pretty much on your own unless you team up with folks ahead of time, and in general you're focused on yourself. BC2 however is more focused on winning the match and not your overall score, so there (in theory) should be more teamwork involved. HOWEVER, from what I've seen people still play BC2 on an individual basis which makes it a much less enjoyable game for me than MW2. At least with MW2 I knew what I was getting and was ready for it. With BC2 I expected more teamwork and just got a clunkier, buggier (yes it's buggier) version of MW2 because of how the community plays the game.

People are usually polarized to either like CoD or BF games more. It's rare that people play a lot of both, so chances are that if you hated MW2 you might actually like BC2 more. It also means that the release of Black Ops won't hurt the player numbers of BC2 much... it might cause a noticeable hit in MW2 though. MOH had a terrible beta and people won't be too willing to get it unless some stellar reviews are out, and still it's more of a MW type game than a BC2 type.

Is there a reason you can't rent BC2 like you did with MW2?

Yeah I forgot to mention, I rented Battlefield BC 2 about a week after it came out, mostly just to play the single player campaign, played the online for about 2 days, but back then I didn't care much for online FPS. I remember there were a lot of snipers that were pretty much useless but I could be mistaken. Modern Warfare 2 I just rented about a week ago, and I just couldn't get into it at all.

I guess I should just BC 2 again just to make sure.

i have both games. but for consoles i guess its a lot different. yes mw2 is like unbearable but if your with a group you'll reign supreme. merc. deathmath is ok to mix up teams all the time. i just got BC2 for PC but i think the gameplay will be much slower. i wouldn't know about mw2 through steam :/

MW2 caters to run and gun style play, enabling a single "John Rambo" to win matches. I did it constantly. BC2, however, forces teamplay because it is very hard to win matches on your own. Even if you are very skilled, you have to do a lot more and cover a lot more angles solo.

With MW2, I refuse to play solo. I can't stand having 3-5 other people on my team who have no idea what they are doing. With a couple friends, the games get pretty one sided because most objectives have 2 choke points. Give me an ACR and some C4 and nobody will get through.

With BC2, the maps are much larger and far more open. There multiple angles to attack from and tons of places to defend from. It is much more advantageous to play tactical with a squad, but you usually go against the same.

I have a ton of experience with both, but without friends playing either, I'd take BC2 any day. With friends, MW2 probably squeaks by due to having small easy to hold maps which give some great battles.

He is extremely correct about this. Walls don't protect you from explosives at all, and it's been one of my most frustrating complaints about the BC2.

I like that part of it. It stops people from holding up in a building and camping.

i agree that walls will not protect you from explosives. but i think it is a positive, not a negative. if people hang out in buildings to sneakily shoot you, you can just rocket/grenade/c4/tank the cover they are hiding behind. i think that is better than trying to lobbing grenades or trying to get inside that building where they are probably camping.

also i read this somewhere: in MW2, you press A to vault through windows and defined places. in BC2, if you want to get through somewhere and you can't find a door, you just blow a hole in a wall and walk through. i think that is cool.

because of this, there is never a 100% safe hiding place, and keeps the game moving.

Some thoughts from a guy who places and like both:

MW2 can't be beat for just smooth gunplay. Yeah, getting commando knifed gets old. Yeah, the campers annoy me. But nothing beats headshotting a guy from halfway across Afghan with my M4, or watching some fool forget to check his corner and walk into my Claymore. Or hitting that sniping b!tch in the back of Overgrown with a perfectly placed Thumper round. I usually play MW2 with at least one or two of my friends though, so we form a small kill team and operate together. MW2 definitely has the best controls and shooting mechanics.

I love BC2 though. I love the unrestricted movement, the epic vistas, and destruction. I love getting sniped by some fool in a window only to respawn and put an RPG in that window and take out half the building with him. BC2 is definitely much more team-oriented, but it still has its issues. The game has numerous glitches, and Conquest mode gets FRUSTRATING when you play with idiots who just race to the helicopters don't actually try to take and hold check points. I started playing Squad Deathmatch a lot more simply because I got tired of being the only strategic player on a massive map. SQD DM, because it's a 4-team FFA with the single Bradley, rewards a good team (my battle buddy and I crush regularly), but still allows you to do plenty of damage on your own if your team is retarded.

BC2 is definitely fun, and if you enjoy MAG, I think you'll like BC2. I think it's a better than MAG but still has a lot of the big-team feel. MW2 definitely has better controls and smoother mechanics than either of them, but I have both and enjoy both regularly.

I have only played BC2, and on the PC, but the one thing that annoys me is constant kills with the Gustav (anti-tank rpg). I don't know if this is a problem with consoles.

Did you just say BC2 has unrestricted movement? You can't even go prone. Plus a large portion of the map is blocked off so if you venture outside by too much you'll die...

Let me clarify then: on a whole, the maps in BC2 are more open and less-corridor oriented, which leads to a less-restricted feel. Unrestricted was the wrong word.

As for the prone part, my response is, "So what?" The only people I know who get their panties in a wad about not being able to go prone in BC2 are the guys that love to sit in the back corner of Overgrown in MW2 with a ghillie suit and a silenced .50-cal in the prone and just snipe. Does it make more sense tactically? Sure. Does it make the game more fun? No. And frankly, with some of the foliage in Laguna Alta, people seem able to camp just fine in BC2 without being in the prone.
