Currently, I have a nice PC Rig that I use to play games on. It is a nice Intell 3000mhz with a 256 meg ATI XT card and 1 gig of RAM. Doom 3 was a blast, but I also play a lot of RTS titles on it.

I also have a Gamecube that is ok, but I don't own a lot of games for it. I own about 8-10 games to be honest with you. I mainly play Mortal Kombat, but I have played and beaten the Resident Evil games as well.

I have been kicking around the idea of getting an Xbox. I really like the idea of modding the Xbox, but some of the games look pretty nice too. There are just a few things that bother me. First, would I get my money's worth out of it in entertainment? I know the XBox 2 is coming out next year, and part of me wants to wait. However, prices are low now and I could get a good deal on one and some games before the holidays.

Do any of you have a nice PC Rig for playing games and an Xbox? Which do you think is better? Do you get your money's worth out of using both? What are your thoughts?
 
I disagree. Get an Xbox. It has awesome flagship games such as
HALO
HALO 2
Mechassault
Ninja Gaiden
etc


Modding it is awesome as well. You can watch mpgs stream music etc. Its a worth while investment

BTW i have a good pc and love sitting on the couch playing a game with a controller. Its fun playing with someone next to you as well

If he's got a 256MB XT and a gig of RAM, I doubt he has a small computer screen.
 
Don't count on the XBox 2 being anywhere near as moddable as the current XBox. You can do so much with a modded xbox (movies, emulators, website hosting, etc) that I'd say it's worth it but that's just me.

Why not? PC can really pay off when you wanna play games like Fable and Halo 2.

It also really works out when you want to play things like Mechwarrior, Rallisport Challenge, Project Gotham racing, Dead or Alive, Top Spin and a lot of others I can't remember with your buddies on the same tv or online.

I'm sure you love to share your keyboard with a buddy when they come over.

My advice though is to wait until the end of the month. Black friday is comin. 😀

EDIT: Oh yea, I have a nice computer and I get way more ufn out of it. But my computer also cost a lot more then the xbox cost me.

Also, I had the xbox has a home entertainment center. It streamed anime and music from my computer and everything. Now, I put together a computer sitting out there to act as a dvd player. I still love the xbox for just the games.

EDIT2: Yea, even a 21" lcd won't compare much to a 36" tv in the living room. Its damn nice and I'd love it, but for some things, I'd prefer my livingroom.

I have heard things like that as well. My Gamecube playing has suffered a bit in fact due to the fact that most of the games on my PC are just awesome. The only thing I use the gamecube for now is some of the fighting games I enjoy playing.

This is another thing factoring into my decision. I would love to get it modded. I was going to buy a DVD player, and part of me was thinking of just getting an Xbox and modding it instead. Then, I could do everything and more. 🙂

Instead of spending $800 on a htpc, I slapped a modchip and a 120 gig hdd in my Xbox sold my dvd player for $40 which paid for my modchip. Saved me some money some space, along with playing dvds and emulators. Its lovely.
