Should i get an Xbox 360?

Alright, last year I was going to get a 360 but settled on a PS3 because of the RRODs the Xbox 360s suffered. However, this year with the new Jasper models out, i've been thinking of getting a 360. Should I go ahead and splurge for one or do they still have RROD problems?

splurge brother. i just got a 360 a few weeks ago and i couldn't be happier. i don't think jaspers are immune to rrod, but i think the chance of it rroding is much less than previous version. in other words, i wouldn't let the fear of it stop you from getting a jasper.

Keep it next to the 360 for company. It's a great bluray player. Also pick and choose cross platformers. I picked Street Fighter 4 and and RE5 for the PS3, so it still gets play time. Also I have high hopes for killzone 2, so the ps3 should get some plenty of loving. Having both consoles, means you have choices. It's great.

So what games should i get for the 360? I already have COD 4 for the PS3 and PC. Thinking of getting Xbox live as well so i can play online with my friends.

Mass Effect, Halo 3, and Gears of War 1/2 are the big 360 'exclusives'. Not totally exclusives as a couple are on PC too, but microsoft exclusives at least. I have all of them, and they were all decent. Mass Effect is my favorite because of how much game I got for my money as well as how well the voice acting was done and all that. Halo 3 is... halo 3. Gears of war 1/2 have pretty solid single player campaigns, and GoW2 has pretty fun multiplayer. Not going to trump CoD4 in multiplayer by any stretch, but I had fun with it. Grand Theft Auto 4 just released a $20 expansion pack for the 360 only if that's your thing too.

If you have friends on XBL, it's definitely worth it. I would ask them what they play a lot, even if it is COD4 it would be worth it to me to get it again on 360 to play with my friends.

How is Xbox live compared to PSN?

Also, I have a wireless router and my PS3 and would-be Xbox 360 would be like 30 feet from where i am, so I'll have to get a wireless adapter for the 360, right?

Or just spend $10 to get a 50ft ethernet cable and connect it hardwire.

If you can't do that, then you can either buy the wireless adapter for $50-75 or use some kind of bridge connection.

30ft isn't that far, don't see why you couldn't just hardwire.

you can pick up a brand new wireless adapter on buy.com for 70 bucks. it works well. if wiring isn't a solution (it wasn't for me), then get the adapter.

Splurge man. I gave up my 360 a year ago and I have been sorely regretting it in the last couple of months. Gears of War 2 anyone?

I say they are both great to have. Both consoles have diverse games. I would say that 2009 is going to be an awesome year for the PS3 so don't give that up! You have games like God of war, MAG, Uncharted 2 and others that are coming out this year. On the Xbox side you have Halo ODST, and TONS of the back catalog that is waiting to be played like Gears of War 2, Dead rising and many others.

I find it odd that you'd intend to buy a 360 without knowing which games you'd want to play first. I can almost talk myself into buying a 360, provided it was a Jasper, but then I realize there's only 1 or 2 games I'm interested in. The rest I either own on the PC(Mass Effect) or played years ago on the PC(360 shooters). Same with the PS3. I'd like to have one, but the only game that's interesting is Final Fantasy XIII and thats a year away.

No, i wouldnt bother.
IMO, there are no exclusives on the 360 worth playing, and nothing on the horizon either.

If there are some exclusive games YOU want to play, then sure. But they STILL havent really FIXED the RROD problem.

Er, RE5 is out now? I thought it wasn't due for a few weeks yet...

Only buy if all your friends have 360. The whole point of the 360 is so you can pay for a gaming service to play w/ your friends online. Like somebody else said, do you even know what games you wanna play that are exclusive on the 360?

Only buy a 360 if there are XBOX exclusives that you are really interested in. Otherwise, most games are multi-platform, with minimal (if any) difference between them. The release of the 360 was really farked up, with RROD, no HDD, no built-in WiFi, only a 20 GB (13 formatted) hard drive in the Premium, etc. It's kind of silly that a consumer has to "Jasper hunt" to try and find a console that won't die on them.

I find Live to be a better experience than PSN, but then again, you pay for it, so it better well be!

One thing about Live though: voice chat is built in, and all 360s come with a mic, so expect lots of little "kidz" cussing at you...

And they can be easily muted. I bought a 360 about 5 months ago simply because my friends had that. That was the decision that swayed me over the PS3 (including price, I got an awesome deal on the 360). Most of the games I play are cross platform so that wasn't an issue. Plus the built in Netflix just sealed the deal, XBox Live is far superior to PSN.

Unless you want to play a wide array of Marathon pseudo-sequels, I wouldn't bother. The PS3 (dare I say it) looks better and won't randomly self-destruct. Many of the games are comparable to their PS3 counterparts; for example, forza is great, but Gran Turismo is generally considered better, et cetera.

On the other hand, the XB360 has a lot of games, many of which have been out long enough to be in the "cheap used games" bin for $8.99.
