Should I get an iPod Nano...???

Hi all am all set to order a Black 2gig Nano....as there are none in shops in UK but is this the best mp3 player for me...?

I would use it whilst running quite a lot - so want it to be small and flash not HD... and then would also use it to hook up to hi-fi via phono input as my pc and hi-fi are in seperate rooms...

should i be worried about the screen and battery issues...?

any other suggestions welcome

I came *this* close to buying a 2GB nano yesterday, but ended up getting a nice universal remote and tripod for my camera instead. The lady and I did a little late Christmas shopping .

yea i would get it my bro has the 4GB and he loves it i have the 4th gen 20GB and i have only used about 5GB on it 1300 songs

I got one for my daughter for Christmas along with some colored sleeves for protecting the screen. Just prior to Christmas, I loaded some music on a dell mp3 player for my niece. Her mom went with the dell because it was a bit cheaper.

IMO, there is no comparison between those units, the Nano is a gem. The Interface alone is awesome by comparison with the Nano being very easy to use..simple and elegant.

I wish I had one for myself, and my daughter thinks I'm awesome (at least at this moment

If you read Cnet's "Nano alternatives" artical, they will say the same thing.

I'd also like to mention, after owning the Nano for a month or so, I will say the battery life on this thing BLOWS, especially compared to the 20/30G Ipods. I don't know what Apple was thinking.

For a little more you get 30GB and video playback.. well therefore I don't see any reasons for the 2GB nano.

i've heard a lot of bad things about the iPod Nano, mostly about the screen, crappy battery, and how fragil it is....get a sony or something, my sister got a 1 GB Sony Walkman (i think it's called Walkman) mp3 player for Christmas, and she is using it mainly for running and to hook up to her stereo at work. She's really happy with it, and the menu on it is like projected on the coating....hard to explain but it looks awsome!!!

Oh, and it has a 50 hour battery life on 1 charge, FM tuner, and holds up to 800 songs...at i think under $200...something to keep in mind.

as fpr the sony, its still crippled by sonys horrible software. the display is just an oled behind relflective tint which can wear off. a color screen is much better.

i have absolutely no desire for a 30gig video player as i stated in my question - probably would use more than 2gig and i would just switch around stuff!

iPods are great, but you may as well spend the small amount extra for the 4GB one. Twice as big for barely any more money.

Well, i think the display on the Sony will last much longer than the screen or the battery on the Nano.

Ill put in a good word for the Sony, I have one thats not rechargable but I get 70 hours of battery life on one rechargable AAA, the software isn't very bad if all your using the player for is music. No worse than itunes anyway. It can be annoying to transfer the music over, but now I just put it on Sonicstage instead of itunes when I get it anyway. I love my Sony it was cheap its got amazing battery life and its 512 mega bytes can hold 345 songs at a very reasonable quality. I would take my player over a 2 gig nano anyday (assuming I got to pocket the savings)

This man speaks the truth. I bought my wife a 4G Nano for Christams. AWESOME player. I have nothing negative to say about the player. It's just perfect.

Don't get it, unless of course you'd like to have the resource intensive iTunes on your computer.. Lets just say that with 512MB of ram and nothing else running, you won't be able to play back music from the built in player, because it will continously stutter. The nano scratches easily and isn't of great quality.

i got the 30gig ipod video for 30 bucks less. if your a college student bring ur college id and drivers licence with you. you can save 10% on your ipod.

no kidding. kinda funny his sig says something about people inheriting stupidity

i've run itunes on an 850mhz p3 before... it works fine. it takes longer to load than say winamp at the beginning since it has the whole music library, but once its up its song searches and such are a snap, and playback is a couple percent like most any player. only time mp3s made pc's stutter was back in the 486 days. i had a dx2 66mhz that could only play mp3s at 1/4 quality in mono back when mp3 was like h264 is now heh
