Should I get an indoor or outdoor antenna?

I'm about to purchase my first home. I don't watch much TV so it doesn't make sense to pay for a cable subscription. But for the little I do watch, I'd like to purchase an HDTV antenna.

Should I consider indoor or outdoor? I realize outdoor needs installation (and I'm not handy). Can I get equal reception with some indoor antennas? I'm about 20-30 miles from most transmissions according to AntennaWeb.

Secondly, and more importantly, I noticed most indoor antenna's come with a coaxial to connect to the TV (correct me if I'm wrong).

My plasma does not have this coaxial input. It only has composite, component, and S-VIDEO.

How would I go about connecting a coaxial antenna to this old business-series plasma? Is there some type of "TV Tuner" box I need? What kind of device is required?

Location and distance is just half of it. I'm close to most transmission but get a poor signal because of the hills valleys in the area. I guess I'm in a low point. I had to add a ten foot mast to finally get a decent digital signal. And one, ABC, still comes in at only 50% strength.

Its funny. We soon will be back in the 1950's with tall outside antenna's and rotors to tune in the stations. Digital is a lot more picky than analog.

First, there is no such thing as an "HDTV" antenna. Just get a good VHF/UHF antenna.

Second, it sounds like you have an HD Monitor and not an HDTV (I.e. no built in tuner). If that is the case, you will need an HD Tuner box (the digital converter boxes for $40-$80 are NOT HD). Samsung and a few others are the only real choice. There aren't that many of them.
-- Or possibly do you have an old 480p (non-HD) plasma monitor?? (In which case a cheap converter box would work fine)

I can pick up all the locals in my area (~22 miles from towers) with just an antenna in the attic, but like sportage said there are other factors to consider.

With an attic antenna you may have to deal with multipath. Some tuners handle it better than others.

Not sure what to tell yah about your lack of a coax antenna connection ...
