Currently have a 2010 genesis coupe. Great car. The cobra is another step up (or down) on the impracticality list but it's just so outrageous that it would be awesome to own. You can get soft or hard tops for them (so I could DD it). One of the guys at autocross is selling his. If it's low 20s I definitely could swing it. My gencoupe is worth about 17.7 according to Edmunds.

Me: 25, no obligations, only debt is the loan for the GC which I could pay off in full within the next couple of months if I really wanted (loan is 3% so I'm not paying all that much interest over the 60mo life. I've had the GC almost 2 years now).

sorry for the wall of text. Posting from my phone.

1)didn't know what a FFR Cobra is
2)Googled it
3)GO FOR IT!!!!! (I assume it's street legal)

Well, I'd certainly look around for other similarly awesome and unpractical cars in your area before committing to the cobra.

Atoms, Sevens and similar road legal track specials might be in a similar fun/buck league, depending on the local market.
I'm guessing street legal Radicals will be out of your budget though 🙂

Also, be sure to look at the parts market. I'm guessing that's one thing where the high number of Seven clones might make it slightly more frugal in the long run. And more customizable as well.

my friend's brother has one. i helped him bring it home from the factory and got the tour 🙂

he was denied registration because it wasn't painted before police inspection, so he had to paint it early to avoid a change in registration laws D:

Keep and pay off the gensis coupe. then save up and build one. you'll know way more about the car building it. remeber some of these are built from 10-25yr old Donors so issues are gonna pop up from time to time and knowing how to fix them will save your butt! and its a cheaper way to go. complete kit from factory five is 19,990 only thing you need to complete it is the engine tranny and rear end. so about 1500-2000 from a junk yard for the donor bits. finally you get to have a solid mass produced daily driver thats fairly new and reliable. so on crappy weather days you have something solid to drive.

You need to have a real car also. A Cobra kit car is on the extreme level of impractical. Does that guy you know who is selling his have something else he drives normally, and why is he selling it?

I would guess he has a dd though the car does have plates. Selling due to divorce.

Another huge +1 on this not being your only car.

Also check on insurance.. Make sure you know replacement value etc etc.. I've seen firsthand someone buy a kit car who turned around and had major issues getting it insured for appropriate value.

Also, the type of shop you have can make or break something like this.
