Still gotta get myself a tux for my prom in May. Luckily, the date part was taken care of well in advance.

PsychoAndy could probably use this advice in the event he gets a tux, so I'm gonna ask it.

Any advice for specific styles and/or accessories?

For all intents and purposes a pocket square is basically a fancy name for a handkerchief. The basic one is a plain white linen or white cotton handkerchief; only you fold it up or ruffle it up (google "how to fold a pocket square") and put it in the breast pocket of your suit jacket. People who aren't familiar with them may find them over the top or ostentatious (i.e. don't wear one to a job interview); but for social events they're a really easy way to dress up a suit and look a little more classy. If you want to get fancy you can get them in different colors and patterns so as to complement (but not match) your tie, but a basic white pocket square goes with anything, is easy and affordable to get, and works best with a tuxedo.

you're going stag to your prom? what fun is that? there won't be any girls there that don't have dates, so why go if you don't have a date? I say, go spend your money on something else, something that you're going to enjoy, rather than spending money on the tux. if you do get a date, then get the tux.

If you do use the suit go buy a tuxedo shirt and a vest, then it will look pretty good. When ur done if you want just return the vest and shirt ;) or put em on ebay! lol

Go to a vintage store and buy a 70's tux, you know, light blue with fluffy shirt.

Update: I got a tux later that day, and I didn't read this thread before I left. I went with tails, some white vest or something, and a button cover (i didn't want to deal with a tie). Suggestions? Should I change to something else? I don't think my selection was that bad, considering my neighbor got a gold tuxedo...

take the white tux back and go with the Dumb and Dumber Orange and Blue :D

seriously though, you're going to go to prom without a date? You've got balls, man. Only people I've seen at prom without a date are the people you didn't even know went to the same school as you do, lol.

btw, prom is SO overrated. The best part was after prom when I got to get out of that monkey suit and stay up the whole night/morning with my friends (hey, being with your friends for 36 hours straight during high school was very rare...for me anyway ;))

Well, I would have waited until I had a date before getting the tux, but whatever. Enjoy your prom. Check theonion.com for some prom tips...

I have some ideas. I'm probably going to hang around with one of my lady friends or something, so I might just ask her.

Besides, I got...oh, about 2 days. :)
