I've talked to a couple of people from here and I wanted to see what the rest of you thought. I'm trying to decide whether or not to get a tattoo. If I do, I want to get a small butterfly. The places that I've thought about getting it are on or near my shoulderblade, low back, or ankle. What do you think? What would be other good places to get it? Also, what color? I'm thinking about either a black or green one.

I agree with RGN in 95% of the cases. If you have to ask I don't think you should get it :)

if you get the butterfly I think it would look nice on your shoulderblade.I do like tatoos on the lower back, but I can't see a butterfly there for some reason

Just make sure that you find a topnotch tattoo artist to do it, and make it tasteful....tattoos that look like they were done in a prison are not cool, especially on women....

I happen to like tattoos on girls in the frontal hip/lower stomach area that would be hidden by a bikini. Kinda neat to have, but still kind of a "special find" for the right guy. Still sexy, easily coverable, like yours and his little secret.

One point to consider is that if you ever have kids, almost any tattoo on your lower body/or breast area will become horribly distorted by carrying a child. Friend of a friend still has a really scary looking "tigger" tattoo on her lower back :Q

My cousin and his wife have gotten a few tattoos from an artist in town and they said that he is very good. It's still something that I'm thinking about, so I wanted to see what everyone else thought. Oh, and are there areas that hurt less (if that's possible) than others?

Sluggo, I've thought about the distortion thing too. I don't have any children, but I definitely want to in the future.

If you decide to get a tattoo get one that inspires you. Put it where you are comfortable.

It's a piece of artwork you are placing on your body. Get it for the right reasons.

I have a dragon tattoo. It's the kind I like. Not oriental but more worm-like. There are many reasons I have this piece. Most of them are personal but the main ones are the year I was born and the fact that I played D&D when I was younger.

Make sure you want one. They suck to get rid of later in life.

PS: I can wear a short sleeve shirt and still be a citizen.

I was considering one my self. It would be Japanese symbols saying strength, wisdom, and honor. I also took the time to research the actual symbols myself, so that a slightly mischevous tattoo artist won't put the Japanese equivalent to tramp on me in permanent ink.

BTW, areas that are more fleshy and less bony are going to hurt less.

tattoos are ok (though i personally wouldn't get one) as long as you don't get a tattoo that says, 'i love (name of significant other)' :)

I wouldn't get one just because I don't need on my body that can almost never be removed. First off it hurts to get it put on (then again I don't like they way they look.) It makes a body look dirty IMO. Then to get it removed its a bitch and a half, oh yea also think of this when you get older and your body starts to sag (which it does no matter what you do) the tattoo is going to look awful.

If you don't put it where it can be seen, then what's the point. I went clubbing last weekend as noticed so many hotties with tattoos on the small of their backs.

I was wondering what the point was, considering YOU can't see it and you have to wear short tops and low-slung pants to get the effect.

It looks hot (and gives you a hint on where your thumbs go!:D), but it's still kinda dumb.

As for color: Why not am orange/black Monarch one? All black is lame.

Its not about how other people think it looks or how they feel about it. I have 2 and have only showed them to friends or family. If they are done tastefully they can be beutiful, it is a piece of art you can truly call your own and have the rest of your life.

LOL!!

I thought of the butterfly for a couple of reasons. I like butterflies. Also, for me, it symbolizes freedom. There is some personal reasons with the freedom thing, but to me....that is a major part of me wanting the butterfly. For some reason, I don't care for a lot of color tattoos. That's why I wanted an all black or all green one.

Hazel,
Don't ask people if you should get a tattoo - it should be a personal choice. Either you really want to do it or you don't. Don't depend on other people on such an important decision. It is a permanent mark, if you're not sure about it yourself, don't do it. If you really want to do this - go ahead :)

howcome I didnt notice this earlier?

I agree with ToolGirl, it your body and your choice. Where you put it and stick it your choice. My friend Chante has quite a few of them, infact I had to sit with her on one which took 4 hrs to do.

Personally I don't think you're sure that want one. If you were, you wouldn't be asking us what we think.

I don't see anything wrong with women getting tattoos. I have 3 of them. Pink Panther with top hat on my ankle, Pegasus on my upper right chest area, and a heart with scroll and flowers with my ex-husbands name on my back right shoulder (ya, I know). The one thing I don't like are all black tattoos on women. I think it looks to harsh and masculine. I specifically went for things with bright colors. It looks more feminine to me.

For the record, tattoos don't hurt. It can be alittle uncomfortable (not painful) at first but the area ends up going numb while they're working on it. The more meat you have on the area were you want the tattoo the less uncomfortable. When I got mine on my ankle, it was more irritating than anything else. You feel the vibration of the gun on the bone. The same with the Pegasus since the wings came up pretty close to my collar bone.

If you decide to do it, go check out a few tattoo shops first. Get an idea of what kind of work they do and if they're clean. Another thing to do is look at other peoples tattoos. You'll see that some colors hold up better than others. The color green doesn't look nice for long. It fades and turns dark.

One last thing, I HATE BUTTERFLY TATTOOS! Everybody and their mother has a butterfly. This is jmo, of course.
