I haven't seen many talk about ReplayTV, which I own. I love it, and with the older 4xxx and 5000 model (which I have), there is automatic commercial advance , as well as send/recieve shows.

Networking to and from other Replays/PC's is nice too :)

Okay, now i'm leaning towards the 140 hour Series 2 from Costco for $200. Is this a decent deal?

How does Tivo work with Digital Cable? WTF is an 'IR' blaster? Is it physically just an infrared box I sit in front of my cable box's IR window, or can't I just connect the two via a serial cable in the back?

I don't remember what serial commands the tivo works with, but the ir blaster is just a little ir transmitter that you put in front of your cable box's remote sensor.

you can take sollace whilst you take a dump in the fact that the last 10 seconds of the 4th quarter will still be there when you get back.

an IR Blaster is a sensor that is plugged into the back ofthe box. just a little nub on a cable.

just remember the lifetime sub is for the UNIT not you. If the used unit craps out the next day, you lose it all.

Just FYI... Tivo is starting to stream via broadband connection...

ALVISO, CA, August 15, 2005 ? TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO ), the creator of and a leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVR), announced today the launch of a video download trial in conjunction with Independent Film Channel ( IFC ), enabling select TiVo subscribers to download IFC programming over broadband to their TiVo Series2? DVR. The only television services provider for DVRs to seamlessly integrate broadband video downloads and telecast content, TiVo is using this new functionality to begin a series of broadband features that will be deployed to TiVo Series2 users beginning this fall.
