i want to be organized and such, but i really want to find out is if i can take notes on it and then be able to transfer these notes to a comp with MS word etc.
i am looking particularly at the Dell Axim can it be able to do this effectively? also is it confortable for internet use etc

otherwise i would just try to aim for a small laptop

thanks in advance!

I had one and just sold it (Dell Axim X5). It's useless for college work and it sat on my desk for 90% of the time I owned it. Getting an mp3 player last year completely negated the purpose of it.

The bright side: I bought it 2 years ago for $230, and I sold it today for $155. :) Not bad.

PDA maybe useful for keeping track of assignments, other than that it's useless, fragile, and easily stolen. Get yourself a small day-planner instead.

The same applies for a laptop, except it's a distraction, fragile, even more attractive to thieves, and nearly useless for note-taking in a technical class. I only ever saw one person using a laptop to take notes in 4 years of college.

I had a pda-they're worthless and nerdy IMO. Dude, when it comes down to it, college is just school. People think they NEED all this BS equipment to do well. You would just waste away time programming and configuring that thing anyway when you should be studying/having fun.

thanks for the feedback! so its not good for note taking purposes then huh? would it be wise to take my comp over to dorm or leave it at home and sign up for crappy comps loaned to students in the duration of semesters or get a lappy and leave comp home then?

if you got on with life without one before, you can continue to do so

I don't have one and I'm doing great. I keep a piece of paper in my wallet to write down anything really important.

They loan you comps free? Then I would use their's for the first semester and see how it goes, if it stinks, then I would bring your own system over.

like most people here i got very little out of my palmpilot... however it did have some useful traits:

i could take pictures with it
i could take down notes (i don't think i coulda transferred them easily)
i could listen to mp3s

having said that i was a pain to carry around cuz i already had a phone.

yeah they loan it for eligible fulltime students, but it has moderate components just meets the requirements... not sure if i should take my own comp out there though how about when semesters are done and i would have to go home?

Not unless you want to look like a total goober (not even the CompSci kids use those). They're useless for notetaking. Get a laptop.

I used a Cassiopeia for note taking in history. It was GREAT. Most people here are majoring/majored in engineering and things like that, where they had to write lots of equations, so they say, "PDA is teh sux0rz for teh notez".

Yeah, they're much less worthwhile than you would think...and ladies aren't as impressed by them as the media would have you believe

The only thing I ever use mine for is browsing the interweb (via Blue Tooth connection through my phone) on subways and on the move

should i take the loaned comp or should i bring mine from home?(the one i am currently using) the only reason i am skeptic of bringing my own is the breaks when i have to go home while my comp is up there at the university? or should i just take my comp back and fourth?
