Should I get a new modem?

Hey everyone, I have a Motorola Surfboard SB5101 modem that's from Time Warner. I believe I pay around $3-$4 a month for it though not sure of the exact figure. I know it's not the newest modem around but I've been avoiding it for a while.

I get around 18-25 mbps down and about 1.5-2.2 mbps. up so the speeds seem OK I believe. Right now I'm leaning towards a new modem because it'll recover it's cost in about a year or a year and a half if it's not more than $55. But I'm not sure if it'll have any dramatic effect in terms of performance.

Any recommendations? Or should I simply stick with what I have?

If it's only $3-4 a month, I'd stay with the ISP modem. They'll only give you a new modem if you're having service issues or you upgrade to a higher tier that requires a better modem. The advantage with using ISP modem is that if you do have service issues and you're using their modem - they'll swap it out no problem. If it's YOUR modem and having issues, they will likely point to your modem first and say it needs replaced, then after replacing if still having issues, then they'll send someone out to investigate.

I think it's probably better to keep the modem. I'm getting higher speeds than what is offered on the plan so I have no complaints there. After the points you guys have made, I think the decision is easy. Though I need to find out the exact amount that's being charged.

Thank you, ch33zw1z and kevnich2.
