Should I get a Gamecube?

I used to have one but for whatever reason I sold it. I'm up in New Brunswick, Canada and I saw that Wal-Mart has a bunch of platinum ones for $70 CAD! Is it worth it or should I save for a Wii?

The Gamecube wasn't worth it when it was current generation... It was my least played console.

If you are even considering a Wii in the near future I see no reason to buy the gamecube since the Wii is backwards compatible with gamecube games, controllers, and memory cards. I have both and have finally gotten some of my gamecube games out and started playing them on the Wii. There's always the opportunity to pick up used or clearanced games for the 'cube that were pretty fun.

Another vote for saving up cash for the Wii. It's 100% backwards compatible with the GC and it will have new games launching for several years to come.

I would say yes, with some reservations. I bought a Gamecube after my 360 and PS2, and found it to have some great games. Make sure it's cheap. Buy a used one. $70 is way too much, IMHO. I think I got my used Gamecube with Wavebird, a game, and _component_ cables for that much.

For that price, just get a Wii. If you don't wanna spend the money for a Wii, I'd suggest going to GameSpot.com and browsing their GameCube games and see if there's enough that you'd like. And like erwos said, $70 is too much for just a GameCube.

if you save for a wii, you can play GC games on that-might be worth the wait. there are some great GC games, but they are limited

At $70 I don't think I'd buy it. But I did see my local EB Games had a bunch of used GCs for $30 recently. If I didn't already have two, I'd have bought one. Check out gamerankings.com for the top games.

Some that are worthwhile IMO:
Zelda
Simpsons Hit & Run
F-Zero
Mario Kart
Mario Power Tennis (one of my favorite games of all time)
Fire Emblem (if the tactical RPG genre is your thing)
Gladius (also a tactical RPG)
Outlaw Golf
Battalion Wars
Super Mario Strikers
NHL Hitz (I don't think there is an arcade hockey game out for any of the current gen systems)
Luigi's Mansion (very short, but very fun and worth the ~$4 it'll probably cost you)

Yeah, you could get a Wii for $250 if you can find one. But the Gamecube is a great way to game on a budget.

For the love off all that is good and gamey no please no!

If you seriously want a Nintendo player get a Wii.

The Gamecube killed my love of Nintendo and nearly killed my love of gaming period. Thank god I bought an original Xbox on a whim, otherwise I wouldn't be here posting in the Console section, I'd be off in the Hardware or Software forums hating life.

I forgot to mention, it comes bundled with Paper Mario..

However it does seem to be more worth it to save for a Wii. Thanks for the suggestions. All I really want is the new Super Smash and it will be fun to be able to play that and Melee on the same system.

The gamecube was my favorite console from last gen but only because it had Maro Kart, Smash Bros and Monkey Ball. But I didn't own one and I didn't do much console gaming last gen except for those 3 games and Madden for the PS2.

I'd get a Wii instead.

Check Gamestop/EB Games if they have them up there. It's not like you're out a lot of money if you only spend $30 on it, and the games you can play on the Wii if you eventually get one. $30-40 is worth it IMO to play it now instead of waiting months.
