It depends. Do you like munchkins, squishy little balloons, flute music, and mushrooms? Or, do you like to shoot police officers with a .357, run people over just because you can, and use people on motorbikes as target practice with your automatic shotgun, then steal a tank and run over civilians, military, and yet more police officers?

If your answer is the first get a gamecube. If the second get an xbox.

Xbox is the better of the two but the Gamecube is great if you are into the Mario-type games. I really dig my Xbox.

I think having the Xbox and the GC is the perfect gaming combo. I love having both and get into streaks on and off where I play one of them a lot. Depends what kind of mood I'm in. I'm big into sports games so I need an Xbox. However, GC has metroid, zelda, etc which are all fun.

I did buy xbox first though. I got the GC on an impulse buy when I found out my sister's work place (Zany Brainy) was going out of business and actually carried the GC. So I got it for $100 - 20% off everything in the store - 40% sister's work discount = dirt cheap GC 🙂

Rossman: that's debatable. IGN noted that the GC version of "Prince of Persia" looked better than the Xbox version even though the Xbox had more polygons. They're close enough that it's not an issue. Go for the games, the graphics are comparable.

I was confused about IGN's review:

The GameCube version of Prince looks slightly better than the PlayStation 2 one, and the Xbox better still. GCN and Xbox sport marginally crisper textures and more stable framerates. The Xbox incarnation features higher polygon counts, too. In the PS2 and GameCube builds, Prince's fingers are little more than a texture, but in the Xbox one the fingers are individually modeled and animated. On top of this, Ubisoft has implemented advanced lighting effects in the Microsoft version and as a result the world that Prince inhabitants looks slightly richer and more atmospheric, if that's possible. All of this noted, all three versions are beautiful and look very similar.

I don't know if they meant XBox better still meaning it has better graphics or the GC, because it talks about how the XBox has better lighting, textures, and more polygons.

I don't see a review for it yet on the XBox part of IGN though.

GC has a lot of good party type games where you can your buds who have never played the game before can pick up the controller and start playing and having fun right away.

That's why I bought mine!

XBox type games are generally available on the PC, GC games aren't.

Gamecube has to be one of the better multiplayer systems out. Games like SSB: Melee, Mario Kart, Super Monkey Ball, Mario Party, any of the Bond games...

I had a gamecube and sold it after I bought my xbox. Online play with Xbox Live was the deciding factor for me. Plus I like the xbox controller S better than the gamecube's. A lot of people prefer the GC's though, but for me the xbox S is just perfect..

Gamecube is a great buy, it's hard to dismiss at under $100. But I bought an Xbox because it has the games and graphics I want. Just look at the selection at your local game store and make your choice from there.

If you have a decent computer, get a Gamecube. If you don't, get a decent computer and a Gamecube.

I've had an Xbox and a PS2, and my roomate has a GC. My Xbox didn't last long (it died like 3 days after I got it), but on day 2 I was thinking about returning it. I just didn't like it. I almost never play my PS2, but we play my roomate's Gamecube almost constantly.
