I often take a 2-3 hour trip to go see my parents and half the time my girlfriend drives, so I usuallly have nothing to do, so I was thinking of getting one to play with on the trip. 70.00 bucks doesn't seem like a bad price, but man some of the games are like 45.00 bucks. Are they worth it or should I just read a book or magazine or something, or maybe even get a PS One

how would your GF feel about that? i know my ex wouldn't like the idea of me playing video games instead of spending the "quality time" alone in the car with her. ;)

but anyway, i didn't like it much. my roommate bought one and i played it a few times...i didn't like it. but that is just my opinion.

Well what sort of quality time can you spend together in a car besides talking? And in that case I was blessed and have the ability to play games or read or whatever and still carry on a conversation with someone. She wouldn't mind, as she often reads while i drive

I bought one the day it came out last summer and still play it all the time. $45 for games? Where in the world do you see those prices? Its a great time-killer, and a good conversation piece. A long car ride would be the perfect time to play - I say go for it.

just visit some sites and pick up a 'flash cart'

so you can download some homebrewed game that's free.....

if you 'accidently' download commercial games you're a bad boy. ;)

Most places I have looked have had a few games for around 20.00, but the average price seemed to range from 25.00-40.00 dollars. I guess ,y 45.00 dollar number was a bit excessive.

Get one, I love mine. A bunch of people got a good deal on them from overstock.com, but they're out of stock. I got mine for $40 when I used my $30 GC from bestbuy for that GF4 fiasco.

I think the flash carts are a ripoff. The biggest one is 256Mb (32MB or about 4 average roms) and cost about $200 with the linker. I think that's just too much...now one that could hold a dozen games or so for the same price would be a good value. :D

go for it, it rules on trips, and even for playing in bed. just get a light for it. or go to portablemonopoly.com and do that mod. and some rechargable batteries (but not that huge pack they sell in beast buy... damn interact sucks!).

why is it a rip off? if you add it all up you're saving money. if you were to go out and buy around 7 games @ 30.00 a game, it would equal to a flash rom linker. im sure you're gonna wanna buy more then 7 games, so you buy the flash rom linker, and save your games (you made or others made non-commercial) to a cd-rw and put it away for later use when you feel like playing.

I totally understand that, I'm just saying that for the $200 I believe you should be getting more memory. Of course paying for games is more expensive...

go for a GBA!

there are some good games out now. Advance Wars is a nice game i hear. You can never go wrong with Mario Kart.

SUper Mario WOrld is finally out. and they're bringing over FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre. THere's a new Castlevania in the works.

and...

best of all...

the Afterburner light thingy from Portable Monopoly. THis thing looks like it rocks. This should be a must buy for people who use their GBA's a lot.

I love my GBA. Don't forget about the huge library of older GBC games that are 100% compatible (including three Zelda games). Look for a package on FS/FT . . . you should be able to get a system with accessories for a good deal.

About lighting . . . if you aren't sure about using the Portable Monopoly system, I recommend a Pelican light shield. Much better than the worm lights. And get rechargable batteries too (I am a fan of the charging cradles).

BUY!!!!

How much would you pay for a preowned GBA, I am thinking of getting one at funcoland if the price is acceptable.

How come I can't go to that thread, it says I am not a subscriber, which I am not, but I didn't realize that not being one would exclude me from certain threads. By the way what are a couple good games for the GBA. I like all kinds of games so I don't really have a type preferance.

EDit: funcoland sells the used GBA for 59.99 and the new GBA for 69.99 so is it really worth saving 10.00 to get the used one?

Hey, I'm thinking of selling my Indigo GBA with the games Golden Sun, Super Mario World 2 and Mario Kart. Comes with the Pelican light (the best light IMHO) which protects the screen when not in use, a carrying case, and a cover for up to 5-6 games (can't remember now).

LMK if you're interested :)

So should I buy it new or save 10.00 bucks and get the used one? What about games?

Save money and buy it from me. It's in mint condition.

I'll take some pics of it if you'd like.

No - she'll dump you if you play that instead of the idle chit chat. She'll start making you drive - trust me.

LOL

No she won't, trust me

I was kinda looking at picking one up today since I will be making the trip this weekend, but if you give me a real good deal on your bundle, I will consider it.

Can anyone recommend some good games if I decide to buy today?
