Should I get a DSL router for peer-to-peer network?

I have a 2 computer peer-to-peer network with windows 98 in my home. I am considering DSL, and wondering what the advantages are to having a router. If I get the router, will both computers need DSL modems (I don't even know if that's right)? Would I be better off just connecting the faster computer with DSL? Please let me know what hardware and software I'd need.

Hardware router is OK, but software routing with program like NAT32 or Sygate is a lot cheaper. NAT32 web page (www.nat32.com) has good instructions on how to set up the hardware and software.

Go for the router, in my opinion it is the better solution. I had a setup where I was running a software router on the PC connected to the cable modem, and it allowed the other PC's to access the internet. I frequently had to reboot the system, as it would lock randomly. I switched to a Linksys router, and now it works flawlessly. The advantadge of the router is that once you get it set up, you can leave it alone. If you need to adjust settings are make modifications, you can do it through your web browser on any machine on the network by entering the router's unique IP address assigned to it. You will need a hub to connect the router, and of course the modem connects to the router. I have a single port router, so I needed a hub to connect to the network, Linksys also makes a router with an integrated 4 port hub. If you have any questions feel free to email, I'd be happy to help

get a router... i think the Dlink broadband router runs $100... something better would be the single port linksys router that's about $20 more.

the advantage of a router is that you don't need to turn on the computer that will act as the router everytime you want to do anything net related on the other machine.

additionally, the hardware router gives you some firewall ablities through NAT...
