the new samsung chromebooks have a nice form factor and seem fast enough to be useful. i sort of want one. have any of you gotten one and if so have you had any problems with it such as an unstable internet connection?

Do you need a notebook form factor device entirely dependent on an Internet connection to function?

What exactly is the point of a Chromebook?
What's the difference between a Chromebook and a tablet?
What's the difference between a Chromebook and an Ultrabook?

I've been seeing a few discussions about them on the internet but never paid any attention to any of the details.
Is this another Luxury toy item that one can do without like tablets, or is this simply a hackjob of Android(or Linux) in a Laptop format.

The Chromebook definitely sits in the luxury item status. The price of it doesn't really make it beneficial over something like a netbook. I have a cr-48 (actually passed it on to my mom) and it was an interesting device.. but I obviously got it for free. I wouldn't pay ~$400 for a chromebook though.

So a Chromebook is really no different from a $400 Android tablet?
Just Android in a netbook/laptop-like exterior?

No. A chromebook is a laptop that runs ChromeOS. ChromeOS is essentially a Chrome browser window that can run web apps. The new versions of Chrome OS allow you a much more traditional desktop view, but all of the apps if I am not mistaken run in Chrome. The benefits of this are that you can set your laptop on fire, get a replacement and be back up and running instantly once you sign in to your Google account.

If it's just a case of gadget lust, go for it. If you have some legitimate needs, I'd probably just go with a Linux netbook.

If you do get one, I'd like to see a review. I haven't had much experience with Chrome OS since when it was first released, so I'd be interested to see how far it's come.

I'm using a Samsung Chromebook 500C, and I would say 'it depends on your use'. It has issues with full screen displaying some Youtube videos (hd resolutions), games from the Market tend to lag significantly, and pages like 9gag (image heavy pages) lag a lot, too.

I would recommend one for emails/basic surfing, but not for much else.

95% of what i would do with it is use the browser. the other 5% would be office suite stuff but i think they are going to make that possible off-line arent they? it seems like a chromebook would have the convenience and slickness of a tablet but with the power of a laptop. also i really like the form factor without the dvd player etc...but with a full screen unlike a netbook

the new samsung chromebooks with celeron are way better than a netbook. i have a bunch of netbooks and atom is too slow to be useful but the celeron chromebooks actually feel really speedy, like using a real laptop but with a form factor that is much better than a netbook

i tried to look what you have up and nothing came up. does yours have atom? i would get the celeron one which seemed decently speedy to me. dont you think if chromebooks were the same price as netbooks they would really take off?

A Chromebook is a neutered laptop for a price premium. Maybe great for your mom who wants to play Facebook games without the potential of a virus (or the cost of a Mac).

For any person on this forum it would be a waste. They do not compare to tablets whatsoever.

I don't understand the point of chrome books. I suggest a tablet or an ultrabook

I just don't see the point in chromebooks. Unless you could get one significantly cheaper than a comparable laptop/tablet and then install windows 7 or Linux on it.

Mine has an intel processor inside. I was given the chromebook for testing and honestly, it collects dust even next to my 5 year old dell xps m1330. It isn't fast enough for my use, but for your usage it might be more suitable.
