Should I get a Blendtec or Vitamix blender?

I've seen the Blendtech ones used professionally. A lot of bars and coffee shops have them. They're both quite pricey though. Maybe look at some cheaper ones first, unless you're going to be using it every day.

So does Blendtec now, though I think theirs is limited and Vitamix's isn't. However, I bought it from Costco so there's an 8 year (still limited I think) warranty. HOWEVER, if anything goes wrong we can just return it to Costco. 😀

Kaido, I heard if you put cork board (or whatever its called) underneath the blender it helps alot with the sound.

Fwiw, I went with the Blendtec from Costco.com before I wrote this, but wanted your advice as I can cancel whenever I want before it ships.

A centrifugal juicer basically shreds the fruit and then it throws it against a mesh to separate the liquid from the pulp.

Doesn't seem like it would work too well in a blender unless you filtered it afterwards. Besides you can get a "good" juicer for $100.

But, the pulp usually contains the most nutrients. I have a juicer, but find myself using my Vitamix to make juice most of the time.
 
and the fiber. I already have a mid-level Breville but the Mrs wants a vitamix to take in the fiber and pulp.
 
On the latest slickdeals deal discussion for the vitamix, most people who used both preferred their vitamix over their blendtec. The downside for the vitamix is it's usually too tall to go under cabinets, but controls are a little easier. No one had a bad word about either tho, it's really just personal preference between these two. Fwiw, the vitamix was sold at macys on new years for ~300-330 w/tax after discounts.
 
These aren't 'run of the mill' blenders I take it by the names?

I got a KitchenAid for Christmas and was finally able to make frozen drinks like slushies with it, but now I am concerned that it wasn't the right choice after seeing this thread.

Eh. I have a really nice food processor, but I hardly use it. My Blendtec has been so much more useful for me, at least personally. I had grand plans for my food processor, but haven't really used it too much. It doesn't do as good or as quick of a job as the Blendtec for most things.

Maybe I need to start cooking more 😛

Nah, I went with a 6-quart KitchenAid a few Black Friday's ago (got it for less than the 5-quart model).

Unfortunately, last year I discovered that I am allergic to gluten (wheat), so it's been collecting dust. If I ever get around to discovering the dark arts of using alternative flours, maybe I'll bust it out 😉

My friend got the mini one like that, the Magic Bullet I think, and surprisingly she said she really likes it. Makes little one-cup smoothies every morning with it.

We have a magic bullet knock off...called a Bella something...

Love it for smoothies and grinding coffee beans.

However they are nothing compared to the blendtec and vitamix.

Blendtec max rpm: 29,000
Vitamix max rpm: 37,000

These de-pulp vegetables and seeds etc., absolute monsters, and motors are made to run like this for years.

My Blendtec will liquify apple & watermelon seeds. And anything else I throw in there. When I'm lazy, I'll just throw in a handful of strawberries, green leafy parts & stems & all, and it will completely liquify them. It's awesome if you have low motivation when it comes to cooking :biggrin:

That's insane. I understand there are lots of vitamins in the seeds too, atleast according to Alton Brown, who just lost a gazillion pounds on a predominantly raw diet.

Your Blendtech is fine. I got a pretty good deal on our Vitamix, but would have bought a Blendtech if I'd have gotten a similar deal on one.

The tough part will be finding enough uses for it. Smoothies are easy...actually using one for other things gets to be more difficult.

Boomer, I find it amazing that you consistently give me good advice on everything from computers, to blenders, to chainsaws lol.

I thought it was stupid that the Costco b&m version came with only one container and the Costco.com version came with two. Now I have to wait a few weeks because it's backordered. Apparently they decided not to include the extra container in the b&m store like they always have this time. Oh well.
 
The products they have at the "roadshow" events changes all the time. I've seen the Blendtec with 1 or 2 containers, with great accessory packages and almost no accessories. The Vitamix is USUALLY the same package all the time, but with slightly different pricing, different pricing on accessories, and different color options.

Keep in mind that while Costco and Costco.com are both products of the same parent company and the B&M stores honor the warranties/returns for the .com store, they're run like totally different companies, usually with much different stock.
