Should I get a 9800 Pro with this system?

Hi,
I am able to get a 9800 Pro retail for 375 canadian firm. That works out to be about 285 US. My question is..do you think my system is worthy enough? Or should I invest the money in other components first. I play the occasional game here and there but the main reason I am looking at the 9800p is the price. I think this is a pretty good deal. System currently consists of:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
Epox 8KHA+
768 MB PC 2100
ATI Radeon 8500 retail
WD 80gb 8mb cache
Samsung 900NF

More details in sig.
Thanks.

Well on that system it will most certainly be limited. Depending on how much you game and what games you play Id say get a faster CPU and uses 9700Pro or 9800 non-pro or something.

Good suggestion...Try to get a faster cpu.The card itself will rise your overall perf in gamez but it wont give you the real potential of the gpu

if your system plays everything now just fine... you can always wait... that 9800 has nowhere to go but drop in price. 😀 when it does... you can squeeze in a CPU upgrade at the same time. 🙂

You shouldn't get a 9800 Pro period.
...and don't even think about it for that rig. You need to upgrade mobo, PC and memory first.

If you have rev. 2 of that mobo, it will take a 2400+ XP which is about 120-125 CDN. Or a 2600+ (266), but they are hard to find.

That said, get the 9800 Pro anyway if you feel the itch. It is a good price, and the card is transportable.

Thanks for the suggestions. I decided to go with it..plus I am planning to do a cpu/mobo upgrade come this holiday season. But for now I'll stick it in my current machine. The 9800's all retail for over 500+ canadian after taxes here in Toronto. I doubt they'll drop that much in price by the time the holidays come around so I don't want to pass this up !
