Should I get a 8800GT with my current setup?

Well, my friend said that he has an uncle that sells computer parts and he said I should be able to get a XFX 8800GT 512MB for around $150. I can also get other computer hardware for under the retail price. All I would have to do is just tell him what I want and they'll try their best to get me my parts.

So the question is, should I get a 8800GT with my current rig in sig? Or should I wait till the new 9 series come out? I game at 1280X1024 and like to use AA and AF, despite never seeing a huge difference with it on or off. I know that I'll be bottlenecking my graphics card.

He said I have only a limited amount of time to make my decision since he has no clue when his uncle will quit his current job. Can you guys help me decide whether I should get it or not for around $150?

Thanks.

At that price get 5 of em and resell.

But ya, I don't see why not. Hell, grab 2 of em and sell me one for $200.

I will call you a fool if you don't buy at that price, seriously. Just make sure its an 8800GT and not an 8600 or 8500 model.

The only computer store where I live is selling 8600s for $390 a pop. I am glad I build my own and buy online...

Roflmao.

Judging from all the "advice" I've been given, guess I'll pull the trigger. But like what Sinxar said, gotta make sure that they're not 8600GTs. Even if they were, no matter, I'll just go up to him the next day and possibly give him a kick for lying.

I'd love to buy a couple more and resell them, but I don't know who to sell them to. And I live in Canada, so that makes it harder for me to sell them on the FS/FT section, assuming my mom would even let me try and make some money.

Somewhat offtopic, but he claims he got 4 OCZ 64GB SSD for $800, and sold them for around $1000. Is it even possible though? I swear these prices are lower than the price that they're suppose to be at. Example: 8800GT was suppose to be from $199 to $249, but to be able to get it for around $150 sounds a little fishy to me.

get the 8800gt now then buy the 9x series when it comes out, using the sale of your 8800GT for $200 to finance it.

If you know the guy that's a plus because that means you probably know where he lives. So if he screws you over you can always go poop in his yard or something. Some retailers can get great deals on hardware and the price the retailer pays vs. the price we pay is sometimes pretty wtf?-sided. I remember back when I worked at Microcenter and I got a $200 gpu for $80. I think that was my GeForce 3 Ti 200. Lmao, good memories. I remember it had a big sticker on the box proclaiming: DDR MEMORY! Lol, a whopping 128Mb. I think I still have that card.

Since you only game @ 1280x1024 I think you should upgrade to the 8800GT and then to the new 9 series. Than continue to uprgrade to whatever comes next because at the price you're getting it if you don't upgrade you should get kicked in the seeds and have "Nancy" tattooed on your forehead. IF it's all legit. Do your research. Don't get taken.

While you're gaming at 1280 you won't be using all the power of the 8800GT, but it won't be breaking a sweat either. You'll also be ready to drive a higher res monitor.

Remember the 8800GT512 needs minimum 24 A on the combined 12V rails and a 6 pin PCIe connector.
