Should I get a 320GB, 500GB or other sized HD?

Hi folks,
I'm getting a new HD b/c my 160GB is just about full. But I can't decide what size to get...

The only thing holding me back from a big drive now is that I'm going to build a new PC about 1 year from now, at which point I'll probably be getting another drive, so that the current one will still have an HD to run on.

So yeah... 320? 500? other?

I should add that I don't want to spend more than $130 or so (going price of a 500GB drive), so 750 and up are out of the question. I also don't have a ton of space in my case, so getting 2x160 is also a no.

500 is no where near too much room. Im about to outgrow 2TB. Im looking ahead to 4TB by the end of the year.

Heh, I'm thinking about ordering up another 750GB too... I usually download around 2GB a day or more (no, not porn... anime 😛)... but my space is slowly dwindling unless I start archiving onto optical media 🙁. I even gave myself a smaller drive in this PC to force me to move stuff to my server, but the server's filling up and I'm sitting here with a 200GB "buffer drive" when I have a 320, 250 and a 300 sitting in a box doing nothing 😛.

EDIT: Oh and go based on price. If a $500 is like $10-15 more for another 100GB... you'd be crazy not to spend the extra couple bucks for room that you may potentially need later on. If there were a $100 difference ( like there is between the 750 and the 500 ), you may not want to get it unless you're going for the most space per slot.

Actually my porn file is only around 11GB
 
I desperately need to upgrade from my 160GB now that I got into downloading from Demonoid. 🙁

I'm waiting for HD's to be cheap enough to buy 2 500's for under $150-200 and RAID them.

LOL, some of you people are serious e-packrats.

I feel kind of geeky having 520GB amongst two drives, but I guess you TB people are way past caring about that.
 
A 1TB HDD. Why? Well, simply because e-pen0r size is directly relative to HDD size.

You do want to impress the internet g33ks, right?
 
Get 2 320GB hard drives for (probably) less than a 500GB drive. I'm assuming you have enough available IDE/SATA connections.

This will also come in handy when you build a new system. Just buy a 10,000 RPM hard drive for the OS drive, and you've got the two 320's you can run in a RAID mode, or just have for separate drives.
 
I personally feel that with the size of HD's today no matter what route you get you should always get at least 2 so you can mirror your data. I don't know about all of you but losing any of my sh!t would be devastating. That's why I'm running RAID10 at home so I can recover from multiple drive failures and not lose anything. I also keep a copy of all my important data on the SAN here and another copy on optical media in a safe deposit box.

Haha, never 😉.

Actually, there are a lot of series that get released and I download almost everything. I think sometimes I'll accidentally download the XVID-encoded standard resolution version and the H264-encoded high resolution version 😱. I still need to organize everything even more so.
 
There are deals almost every week now for 500GB drives for $100. I think you'd almost be silly not to grab one of those. The 320's are usually about $80, so for only $20 more, you're getting an extra 180GB. Check out hot deals if you can't find a 500GB for $100.
