Should I enable ACPI in BIOS?

I have an Epox 8K7A board, Athlon 1600+ ...should I enable ACPI before loading Windows 98SE or Windows 2000?

I just installed 98SE the other day, I have Win2K on my main box but wanted to play some older games
on the Epox setup. However, something is wrong with this computer that I can't quite put my finger on and
I think I'm going to ditch the 98 and try 2000 on it. And just in case it might have something to do with the
ACPI setting I thought I'd ask. BTW I leave all standby features off except for letting the monitor go to sleep
after 30 minutes.

Oh, the computer appears to be rock stable most of the time - runs games great. But Windows Explorer
is occasionally giving me grief - I'm getting freezes (not crashes) but it just freezes for a while. Also when
I download something to the desktop it doesn't show up until I hit F5 to refresh, sometimes not even then -
I'll restart, and the file is there. There are a number of things I can try but I think I'm going to start by reloading
the OS because 98SE is seeming kind of sucky anyway now that I'm used to 2000.

Thanks...helps me understand a little more. Any other ideas as to what is causing my problems?

I'm going to reload the OS first. Maybe it's just some weird driver thing but I have all the latest and
greatest for everything in this system. Then I'll start replacing hardware. First thing I'll try there is a new
PS - I have a 300W Sparkle in there. But wouldn't an insufficient PS cause crashes and shutdowns?
I can run benchmarks and games with flying colors.

ACPI helps managing resources. So, if you decide to go with
W2K, make sure you enable it. As a matter of fact, it can run
all(!) PCI devices on the same IRQ without any problems under W2K.

That was very weired when I found that out 🙂 No error messages...
no exclamation points... And everybody is happy on IRQ 9 🙂 🙂 🙂
