should i dump my ps2 for a x-box? i plan to sell my ps2 to my mom for $100.00.

is anyone else doing this as well? i want to play online as playing by yourself, like always, gets boring.

I have an XBox, and am glad of it. The only reason I would have a PS2 now is because of Vice City.

Make sure you have broadband now if you are getting XBox though. XBox Live is a lot of fun!

What the hell is your mom going to do with a PS2? Does she play games, or will it be her DVD player?

yeah, we should all buy Xboxes so we could play online! that's the latest and greatest thing! What's that you say? People have been doing it for years on their PC's??? Oh....

I say dump both of them, This way you'll spend less time at home playing with other people on-line. You chances of meeting new friends will increase by 10 folds. 😉

But but... You mean they just wasted all their money?

Next thing you'll try and tell me that those PC people don't have to pay extra money next to their broadband subscription to be able to play games online!

Last time I checked, Xbox + Live! + Games = f*@&load cheaper than a high-end gaming PC.

Always a bright day when Skyclad starts ragging on the Xbox.

Xbox Live kicks ass!
MechAssault is a blast via XBL.

And those who haven't tried it don't know WTF they are talking about.

Last time I checked, PC + Broadband = Alot more uses than gaming, more variety in games, more power, more versatility.

With Xbox you pay through the nose for the online service and you buy overpriced games. Where are the strategy-games? Where are the simulations? Where are the real RPG's? Playing FPS-games sucks with that controller. Need I go on?

Thanks but no thanks.

Be sure and check out the BIG LIST - Xbox Deals thread over in AT's Hot Deals forum, before you buy. There are some EXCELLENT bundles and offers available right now, and more coming up over the next 2-3 weeks.

There is also a RUMORED price drop to $150, altho most folks (including myself) don't expect it to happen.

Ah, so you are posting this from your 486 with 8MB RAM and Windows 3.1?

Hate to bring the news, but 99.99% of the people here has a high-end PC already.

I have had an Xbox since launch and never had a PS2. I say go for it if you can get $100 off your PS2 unless you are one of those people who just loves GTA:VC. I could care less for that game.

If you do get XBL, be sure to get MechAssault.

And why do people always compare prices of a PC with that of the Xbox. With a PC you have to buy a new $300 video card every year. Consoles last 4 or 5 years and there is no video card to buy. Sure you have to pay $50/year for their online service but is that anywhere close to $300? I think not.

Come again? For $50, the Starter Kit INCLUDES the first year of service.
Granted, they haven't release the monthly cost of the service after that yet, but if it's more than I'm willing to pay, I'll cancel.
So just how am I paying through the nose for this?
and you buy overpriced games.
And when was the last new release for PC any cheaper than an Xbox game? There may be some titles that come down in price faster for the PC, but normally those are crap titles heading straight for the good ol' "bargain bin." You're welcome to that dreck, if you really want it.

Compared to the absolute bug-ridden SH1T that has been released for the PC for the last HOW MANY YEARS, the relative stability of console games is a very nice change of pace. :|
I for one am tired of this "release now, patch later" mentality.
I've also gotten tired of trouble-shooting BS on the PC platform, because the developer didn't complete adequate testing, when all I wanna do is fire up a game for quick action.

I'd been a pretty hardcore PC gamer, and I resisted consoles a LONG time.
Until last Thanksgiving, the last console I had personally owned was an Atari 2600. :Q
Then I scored a clearance Dreamcast and had a BLAST with it.
There were some STELLAR titles for that console.
And I realized it was just a lot more damn fun.

I also realized I am damn tired of chasing the hardware tiger on the PC.
Top end videocards cost more than TWICE as much as a console, and for what purpose?
So it can post the top benchmarks?
It MIGHT be able to run games that are due a year or two in the future at a viewable framerate?
Where are the strategy-games?
Not a fan of that genre, so doesn't mean anything to me
Where are the simulations?
Which kind? Flight sim? Space-combat sim? Mech sim? Sims sim?
Where are the real RPG's?
Baldur's Gate? Morrowind?
Playing FPS-games sucks with that controller.
Which controller? The original (if so, no argument there, hate the original controller)? You need to try the "S" controller if you haven't yet.

I'd keep the PS2.

Xbox-2 will be out before any other. Kinks and such should be worked out by then....along with confirmation that MS will stay with games as it's major focus.

You do 😕? And here I am with my GeForce 2 GTS, enjoying the latest games without any problems...

Add to that the limited uses of a console, the more expensive games, the limited variety of games...

So, does the $50 include the cost of the actual broadband-connection or is it added to that cost? What else can you do with it?

Well, they mean alot to me. What is the current selection of strategy-games on consoles? Jack sh!t!

Where are the simulations?
Which kind? Flight sim? Space-combat sim? Mech sim? Sims sim?

Flight-sims, tank-sims etc. Again, selection on consoles: jack sh!t!

Where are the real RPG's?
Baldur's Gate? Morrowind?

Identical to PC-versions? Just as playable? With THAT controller? Sorry, I don't buy it.

Playing FPS-games sucks with that controller.

Any controller. Can any console-controller even come close to keyboard/mouse-combo? Again, I don't think so.

And:

* Project Gotham Racing
* MechAssault
* Splinter Cell
* Dead or Alive 3
* Deathrow
* Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
* Rallisport Challenge (not a big rally racing fan myself, but this game gave me an appreciation for it)
* Unreal Championship

and for me personally:
*Crimson Skies (just confirmed this weekend that it WILL have multiplayer features, including squadron play against human or AI)

I don't need to do anything else with it. I already have a broadband connection for a host of other reasons.
And at a cost of less than $4.17 a month to me, the cost of Live is DEFINITELY not paying "through the nose" as you termed it.
Especially since that covers the cost of ANY and ALL Live enabled games, whether I own them, rent them, or borrow them from friends.

BTW: Does the cost of WARCRAFT include the actual cost of the boradband connection?
No? Then why not, according to your beef about paying for Live.
How about EverQuest? Again, why not?
Well, they [strategy games] mean alot to me. What is the current selection of strategy-games on consoles? Jack sh!t!
Again, since I don't play them, I don't follow them either.

Luftwaffe might interest you, altho it's not slated for release until sometime in 2003. Most console sims have traditionally taken a jaunt toward stuff like mecha sims, a la Steel Battalion, altho I know "Vertical Tanks" are not what you are referring to.
Where are the real RPG's? [Baldur's Gate? Morrowind?]Identical to PC-versions? Just as playable? With THAT controller? Sorry, I don't buy it.
Can't really say...don't play RPGs either. But have you tried them? You might be very surprised. Friends of mine that do play RPGs (on both console and PC) say those two are excellent on Xbox.
Can any console-controller even come close to keyboard/mouse-combo? Again, I don't think so.
I think it depends completely on the title, more than the controller.
Personally, I thought Halo played AWESOMELY.
No problems with controls, and I'm a diehard nostromo n50 devotee on my PC.

Timesplitters 2 tho...can't stand the control in that game.

The difference?
Halo has a locked POV with the reticle in the center, just like mouselook on PC.
Timesplitters has a squirelly "swivel gun" control scheme (a la Goldeneye) where just the reticle moves, until it starts to reach the edge of the screen, then the POV turns as well.
It makes that title damn jumpy, and I personally don't like it.

But I also have to ask...so who's asking you to give up your PC?
I thought the original question was about whether a current PS2 owner should think about selling it and buying an XBox?
