Should I drive or take public transportation in Denver?

Thinking I might rent a car but heard the free rail in denver downtown. I will be staying near the convention center and the parking is expensive at hyatt regency. Is it easy to find cheaper parking in that area?

I am into classical music and beer...if there is a good orchestra or some cool stuff to visit, please let me know as well.

Public transportation's decent here, but it depends where you want to go. Colorado Symphony's pretty good, though I preferred them under Marin Alsop. For beer, you can do better in Boulder, but there's still plenty of decent microbreweries around- Wynkoop's pretty good (down by the baseball stadium).

Marin Alsop? I just saw her at LA Phil. Great concert, great Brahms.

Boulder? Looks 20 miles away on google map. I might go there just for the brewery alone, recommendation?

You are going to be within walking distance of just about everything, but I linked RTD's website for you anyway. The 16th Street Mall shuttle is free and the remaining buses/light rail are pretty inexpensive.

parking downtown is pretty impossible
public transportation is good
if you only spend a night or two, the light rail & free shuttle along pedestrian mall will be all you need

its cold and snowing, so you may not want to wait for buses if you want to go out further

so its up to you. there are lots of things that are a drive out from the city. if you are on business, just rent a car and fuck the expenses

is the weather up your way as nice as ours down here in the springs. looks like we got a nice week ahead of us.

It's been in the 40s and 50s lately. I think it's going to be that way for the rest of the week.

i was excited when i saw our forecast. sunny and a warm mid 40's this week. looks like i'll be in town this week. hehe

It's cheaper to get a rental car for a whole week than just a few days.

The problem is parking, it's $26 at the hotel. 🙁

Is 3rd party parking lots fairly easy to find in downtown?

Just hitchhike along Colefax Ave.

Colfax, not from CO are you? If you're into hookers that's where you need to be 😉

There are 3rd party parking lots everywhere, but I'm not sure of the prices for long stays. And prices vary wildly depending on how close you are to the sports centers and stuff.

If you don't care to travel outside of the downtown area the free MallRide, which goes up and down 16th street, will get you close enough to most places you'd care to go...certainly within walking distance....though I don't know off-hand if it operates at all hours (doubt it).

The Natural History museum, Aquarium and Zoo are all too far away to walk, but the Denver History museum, Art museum and performance complex are all close enough to the 16th Street Mall. There's certainly enough beer downtown to satiate one's thirst.
