Should I ditch my Pentium Dual Core E5800 @3.20 GHZ for a INTEL Pentium Dual Core G6

My HD7750 is really underperfoming in games, at least i think so. 12-16 FPS in AC3 @ medium settings and 1280x1024 is not normal, is it? GTA IV is running horribly as well. I think it's a CPU bottleneck, so would this one be better? Or if not, any suggestions on below 100€ acceptable CPUs?

On a HD7750? Not really.

That Pentium should do alright. You might be better off with an i3-3220, though. Or an A10-5800K would do quite well- you seem happy to overclock, so it's a decent choice.

You can download something like MSI afterburner or even catalyst control center to monitor GPU usage and use task manager to monitor CPU usage and find out whether you are CPU or GPU limited. If one is used near 100 percent and the other a lot less then you know what is limiting. It is even possible that both are being used nearly 100 percent. That is what I was seeing in Skyrim with my old system. In a case like that, you would need to upgrade both.

AC3 is fairly demanding and GTA 4 terribly optimized, but at med settings and that low resolution, I would think you would be getting FPS in the 20s. Just a guess though, as I have never played either.

If you love to play multiplayer, demanding 3d games, a pentium will choke a 7750 when there's 50 or so people on the server. Does for me in games like Dayz and War of the roses. The fps sinks below 20. Other than in those conditions my pentium g850 is a champ for my 7750.

If on a budget, get an ivy i3 atleast! Preferably an i5, as mentioned above.

My 7750 is doing just fine in, for example Skyrim, as it runs fine (40-60 FPS) at high settings and high reso texture pack. Some more examples of strange lack of performance are Minecraft and Splinter Cell Conviction. Not sure if Shogun 2 should run better than it is now (40-10)

No, it’s not really going to be worth the upgrade going from a dual core processor to another dual core that’s only a little faster.

You want to upgrade to at least an i3 that can process 4 threads at once instead of only 2 like your E5800 or the G6. The new Ivy Bridge i3-3220 (3.3Ghz) would be a good sized upgrade and will perform much better in the new games that are multithreaded (use more than 2 cores).

The i3 will cost a little more than the G6, but the little extra cost will be well worth it performance wise.

Shogun will happily use all the CPU performance you can throw at it. Especially in big battles with 2x 40 units (ultra size). So even an i3 will be a major upgrade. But personally I would go with an i5-3470 minimum...

Not true, the cheapest celeron G530 will blow the hell out of C2D E8500, so I think the G650 pentium will blow his E5800 like nothing.

OP: In your case I definitely would buy i3
