Should I disable AGP 4x and fastwrites on this system?

I installed a Radeon recently but I'm still not that impressed with performance in UT. I'm running the game at 1280 res at 16-bit but still only get an avg of 40 fps. Would disabling AGP 4x improve performance? I realize win2k drivers for Radeons suck at the moment but I still should be able to do better than 40 fps. I have the 7020 drivers installed btw. How would I go about disabling AGP 4x and fastwrites in BIOS (I know next to nothing about doing stuff in BIOS so I need step-by-step plz). thanks

If it works, let it be :)

AGP4X will not reduce performance, that's for sure. As for UT performance and Radeon, you should stick with 32bit color modes as they're not any slower on Radeon than 16bit ones. But neverhteless, unfortunate fact is that even with all latest patches and tricks applied, Unreal engine's Direct3D performance compared to what it is on Glide has only gone from ludicrous to bearable.

Ok, this is an issue that's really confused me. Everybody says that there is barely any noticeable performance difference between running a Radeon in 16 vs. 32-bit. However, when I play UT in 32-bit it is noticeably slower in my opinion. Much less smooth. Why would this be the case?

If you really want your performance to go up in UT under Win2K you really need to get yourself another 128MB of RAM.

UT might resort to 32bit textures in 32bit mode by default, you should check UnrealTournament.ini file in UT\SYSTEM subdirectory, look for entry Use32BitTextures under [D3DDrv.DLL] field. Disable it, set it from =1 to =0. That's about all I can come up I'm afraid :)
