Should I continue to use -advmethods?

I currently have -advmethods in the registry for both of my folding clients. I asked in this thread about a problem I found when using the -advmethods.

I added the -advmethods into the registry for my F@H. I noticed that lately, I've been getting small point WUs and for the last 3 projects, the credit I got was only 178 points. Is this fine or is there something wrong? I know I won't be getting big points since I'm folding for 2 different teams on both cores. I don't care that much about points though since as long as I'm helping to make a change, I'm happy.

The reply I got from GLeeM was:

New rules for advanced methods (-adv flag)
In the near future, we will be releasing some new projects which require a very rapid turn-around time. These are peptide fragment simulations which we are interested in simulating for a time-sensitive collaborative project involving protein structure prediction.

These WUs will go directly to the classic clients running with -advmethods. Non-classic clients (eg SMP, GPU, PS3) will not be affected, as all of these calculations will be run via the AMBER core and only the classic client supports the AMBER core.

To reward users for participating in this exciting project, we will be giving a x1.5 bonus in the points awarded. What's the catch? These projects will be less rigorously beta tested, so there will be an increased risk of Early_Unit_End errors. We believe the risk of this is minor (there will likely be a higher rate of early unit ends, especially very early in the WU, but we do not expect client machines to become significantly less stable). However, if you do not wish to participate in this project, just remove the -advmethods setting from your client.

This will not last forever and will likely go back to normal -advmethods usage in a few months. With that said, we do plan other uses for -adv in the future.

Now should I continue to run the -advmethods? Constantly, I've been getting 178 points WU and I'm not getting that X1.5 bonus either. I noticed they take a while to finish, and I was wondering if I would be making a better contribution to F@H if I removed the -advmethods. Or, should I just move to SMP client instead even though the computer is on about 10 hours a day.

And at that speed I sometimes barely finish SMP units (have about 30 minutes to spare lately).
So, if you are not going to run the SMP client 24/7, don't make the switch. You will be getting no points since the SMP client doesn't send out partials.

My X2 4000+ @ 2.47ghz only comes close to missing deadlines on those 2144point WU's. The rest are all fine. But it's on 24/7; it would miss every deadline if it was only on 10 hours.

What if I pushed the chip to around 2.8Ghz. I'm maxed out at 2.4Ghz if I leave the multiplier at 10, however if I drop it to 9 I can push 300 on the HT (FSB).

How about the use of -advmethods? I'm not getting the 1.5X bonus that I should be getting. All I get is 178 points everytime I finish the WU, and it takes about 3 days to finish the 178 points WU since it's on only for around 10 hours a day.

I also noticed that with the use of -advmethods, I've been getting small point WU. Currently, I have a 178 point WU and a 84 point WU, which takes about a day or two.

Try it without -advmethods and see if you do better. (I think you might, at least for a while)

Make sure you also have answered "Yes" to BigWUs/ big downloads.

What's the BigWUs/Big downloads? I followed MDE's setup guide so I should have the BigWU/Big downloads checked off as yes right?

Also, how do I know if I'm getting the 1.5X bonus or not? At Fahmon and folding.extremeoverclocking, all I see is that I'm getting 178 points for the WUs that I submitted. Does the 178 points include the bonus?

you need to run an app like fahmon or fahspy to see exactly how many PPD you are actually earning. With this information, we might be able to tell you if you're getting x1.5 or not.

This is what fahmon is telling me about my PPD. "Calculate PPD based on all frames. "Calculate PPD based on effective rate..

I'm suppose to calculate my PPD based on the effective rate right?

select the "last three frames" option. Of the 3, effective rate is the least useful and is going to be removed in the next release.

Points after sellecting "last three frames"

I should get a total of 477.5 PPD, however I run my computer only around 1 hours a day, so that's inaccurate right?
