Should I contest this parking ticket?

Assuming it's not in the same town that you live in, you most likely will waste more in money from gas driving back and forth. You'd also have to take off from work. Your only real option is to find a lawyer in that city that would do it for a fraction of the ticket. Tough luck finding one though.

Most likely there was some tiny sign by the border of the city with those laws on it. Of course there is no way to read all of it at 40 mph.

Ignorance is not an excuse....

However the fact that it is not posted anywhere makes me think that it's just another racket conducted by law enforcement.

If they were out of state and I never planned on going back, I'd simply refuse to pay.

Otherwise, I'd arrange to pay them some ridiculous amount like $5/month until it's paid.

I am from Alhambra. There are signs with the green bars on top that say no parking without permit 2 am to 6 am. There are two such signs on the street that you linked to.

Even if there aren't sings, I got one of these bullshit tickets in Brea. Contested it through mail, they said it is posted at city limit entrances, and that's good enough. Yea like I'm going to pull over and read the fine print every time I enter a city. Fuck CA, glad I left. Not getting any more money from me.

Whoever you visited must not like you, since they didn't tell you about the citywide parking restriction. Some neighbor with a permit and no place to park their car likely reported you.

I live there and it's the whole city and signs are everywhere though maybe not exactly at where you parked but probably at the end of the street or on the other side.

I looked around in streetview. There are green and white signs about every block.

I found this one approximately across the street from where you parked.

I can feel sympathy for the OP. If he's not from the area, he wouldn't know to look for no parking without permit signs (I've never signs like those before). He saw other cars parked in the street and assumed it was ok.

Those are the ones. I could never seem to get a good view with Google maps though. Glad you did.
