Should I complain to the manager at this bar?

Last Night 2 friends and I went to Lumpys bar in Salt Lake City. All 3 of us ordered a deal they had where you get dinner and a bus ride to and from the Utah-Oregon game for 8 dollars. My friend and I were racking up a pretty decent bar bill after we ate and our designated driver was just drinking water and chatting with us. Everytime the waitress came over we would order 2 drinks. It was a very busy night. My 3rd friend (the designated driver)went to the bathroom and our waitress came over and we ordered 2 more jack and cokes and I asked her if she would refill the water of the third friend. She got snotty and said "His water priviledges are just about over. He needs to order a drink" and she walked away. When our driver came back he got pretty offended. We were all offended. I was going to see the manager then but I was pretty toasted so we just left.

Should I just blow this off or call them? Or send them a letter with our reciept on it so they know we were spending a decent amount of money?

uh, what you should have done was when the meal was over, don't leave a tip, and specifically point out to the dumb bitch that the reason she's not getting a tip is because she is a dumb bitch

Definitely - if there's EVER a reason to stiff a waitress on tips, it's when she makes your DD order a drink. :|

if you have a copy of your reciept,go back and see the manager,
ask whats the policy for Designated drivers here;or if there is a policy?

I have been a DD a few times,at some places its free water/soda {Pepsi,Coke,root beer etc}

at a few bars i had to pay for my soda.

Uh,when i had to pay my friend; the designated Drunk,LOL paid for my soda..

Send a copy of the receipt as evidence.
Requiring someone to order/ consume alcoholic beverages as a condition for service is not allowed by most jurisdictions. This sort of policy can be illegal.
At the clubs I've worked in / managed, Designated Drivers got free soft drinks, water.
I instituted the first DD program in Placer County back in 1988 / 89.
The Auburn PD and CHP were very appreciative of my efforts.
I cannot fathom why she would be like that.
I can only guess she had no understanding that he was a DD.

You all 3 were together so even so if she was stupid enough to say that he needed to order a drink so he could get more WATER (which is nearly FREE! geez) it should have been just considered that one of the drinker's drinks was "his" but theyre drinking it instead...makes sense to me--except that whole basically paying for water with a drink thing. Pure BS

Write a short letter. It will only take a few minutes and depending on how the boss is, it could make a huge difference at that place.

Yeah, I agree , it should be obvious. That's why a little "heads up" to the boss and regulatory agencies is in order.

I believe the waitress said the person had to order a "drink." A soda like Coke, Pepsi, root bear, etc is still considered a drink. Nobody is making the DD buy shots.

I don't know what bars you frequent, but in my experience when a waitress talks about a drink she isn't talking about soda.

I know from waiting tables it sucks when a couple people order things and some friends sit with them sucking down waters, taking up seats, and purchasing anything. It blows when you lose a 4top table to 3 people, and then one of them doesnt buy anything, so in a sense your only getting money from 2 people at your 4 top (Im not saying its wrong, it happens all the time, it just kinda sucks as i like my section and tables to be filled as much as possible if im going to be waiting on them- I usually have a 4 4tops and 2 2tops in my section). That being said, that was rude of her and i would never say something like that to one of my tables unless they were being complete assholes. You can try talking to the manager about it, but seriously, i doubt anything will come of it so your probably better off letting it go. She could have been having a bad night, simply been mistaken and not known your buddy was a DD, or she could be a crappy waitress in which case she'll get fired soon enough. But from what ive seen, complaints written or called in usually dont do too much.

wouldn't it be irrelevant if they all tip you anyway?
