Should I change the fan?

I have an FOP-38 keeping my 1.2G T-bird cool. My problem is that the fan sounds like a hair dryer and I want to change it out. Does anyone see a problem with doing that? I have a retail HSF that came with a Duron 700. What I am thinking is taking the fan from the retail cooler and putting it in the FOP-38 Heatsink.

What do you guys think, is it a good idea? Will it still provide adequate cooling? I guess there is only one way to find out but I wanted to see what you people think.

Thanks

Is the fan on your Duron heatsink a 50mm or 60mm one? If it's a 50 then I wouldn't. Go to 2CoolTek and buy a quieter one.

What's your current Temp?
How many case fans?

Yes, 50mm is too weak for the job

48c, thats pretty warm for an fop-38....what is your ambient temp?? If you cant stand the noise there are plenty of other coolers that will do the job just fine, you might see your temps rise like 3-5 degrees but its probably worth it. Still your temps seem high to me. I have my 1G tbird at 1.2G and I get 40C at load....28 idle...and my ambient is about 25. Anyways, good luck to you ;)

Well, it is on an A7V133, and from what I understand it adds 10C to the temp it measures because of the location of the sensor. It ran around 38C when it was on a KT7, with the FOP-38.

i agree with muerto...a 50 mm fan will be too weak...buy a quiet fan from 2cooltek and you wont be disappointed (at least your ears wont;))
