About a year ago I left a great IT programming job to accept a management position in a semi technical Non IT job. It hasn't worked out and actually I am extremely board most of the day. Just not enought technical challenges.

My old manager at my programming job has been asking if I would consider returning.

Is it ok to return to a job that you left?

Just trying to get a idea from people that may have done this.

If you left the other job on good standings and there is no hard feelings left because you left I dont see why not. I did it once and it worked out till they had laid us all off a year later though.

I probably would go back if you left on good terms. Keep in mind most managers won't 'match' pay if an employee has found a higher paying job. In my experience people that found somewhere with higher pay are already unsatisfied anyway

I left for a number of reason. It is a longer commute than my current job (bout 15 minutes both ways) Also I am mid career(30) and wanted to see if management was the right route or stay purely hardcore techy..

Did that once...no problem if left on good term. I actually got 40% more pay that when I left the job. That kind of bugged me a bit since I knew they could've paid me more back then and I wouldn't have to leave to find another better paying job.

If you liked your old job, then go back to it. Not many people out there actually enjoyed their job to the the point that it isn't really working. It's better to be happy and poor than rich and a sad panda.
