Here's the ad -

WILL TAKE $325. FIRM IF SOLD BY THURSDAY NIGHT OR VERY EARLY FRIDAY
MORNING.......I have a 90 Ford Explorer for sale. It is maroon with
grey interior. 4door,4 cyl., auto, power windows and locks, Runs and
drives great. Very good tires on it. Got a rust spot on the drivers
side fender andone on drivers side rocker panel. Would make someone a
good vehicle. Im selling because I need the money to pay my electric
bill, or else Iwouldnt be selling it. Asking $500. O.B.O. I need to
sell this by Thursday afternoon or very early Friday morning.

Then I got these answers to some questions

We change the oil around every 2500 miles. It has about 123,000 give or take on it. Does have a clear title, but I will need to order a speed title it I sell it since I have misplaced it. I can and will get a title to it though, I will even sign something stating that. We have had it about 3 years. Not been drove much at all since we have had it. Just if we bought something big to haul or if one of our other cars is down. It gets about 25 mile to the gallon

So I don't really need an SUV, but my current car only gets around 20 mpg and needs some work. My issues are that this will be a quick sale, he has lost the title "Its in our name and we just lost it moving." so that will have to get reissued, also there is no such thing as a 4 cylinder explorer, etc etc etc.

But I mean it's $350 bucks, if I get there and it runs it should be a worthwhile purchase no? If it lasts 6 months that will be enough time for me to locate a restoration shop and put my old VW in for bodywork and a paintjob.

Opinons?

On a side note, make sure you can get the title before giving them money.

My only concern would be the "mis-placed title"...THAT could be a problem. I'd want proof that the individual owns the vehicle free & clear before giving them a dime.

The seller says will get title if you are going to buy no? So wait for title, then hand over cash.

Another vote to not buy until you see a title ... you could easily get screwed out of $350.

25 miles per gallon on a ford explorer? Not any that I've ever seen.

But don't give him a cent until you have the title in your hands...

Yea, I think it will be more like 20, and it's not a 1990 4 cylinder, as they came out in 91 and were 6's. But for $325 it has to be worth it, but I'm going to insist on the title/proof of ownership, because that is just throwing my too good to be true deal meter to bad levels.

i think id pass. i used to work at a small neighborhood car dealer, and he would always post "deals" like this to get a quick buck and a few people on the lot. usually he would have the mechs tighten a wasted ront end, piece together a tranny that will get it 30 miles or something cheesy like that. one camaro he sold for 2 grand had one cylinder PULLED OUT of the engine so the rod would stop making noises. i pity the guy that bought that car. btw, the sale of that 7 cylinder car was my last day working for that jackass. id say if you have an extra 350 and want to gamble, it could be a decent vehicle. but if you are relying on it to get you back and forth, then heck no. the no title thing is odd to me, here in AZ i can get a replacement title in a few minutes, depending on the wait in line at the MVD that day. 12 bucks and out the door.
