Heatware is a rating system based on how good of a buyer/seller/trader you are. As you can see i dont trade much so i only have 2 reviews, the more you trade the more reviews, the better your reputation.

As for the warranty. Some people will see it as a benefit, however i OC so a warranty is pretty much pointless, and on top of that i like to fix my own parts (that is just me), i dont like someone fiddling around with my computer for me... im not that lazy :p

How can they tell if you OC or not? As for fixing parts, there's only so much you can "fix" in a PC. Most of it is "replacing" parts, which is how most of the warranties work. In fact they'll do everything in their power to get YOU to do the labor. They avoid sending out a tech at all costs.

I am lazy, that's why the whole OC thing was to me a pain in the @ss. To each their own.

Thanks for the reply

That is your personal problem. If you do not care if it violates your morals and the law (because sending back something you broke that violated the warranty is breaking the law) then go right on ahead.

I certainly hope you would not even consider doing that.

Of course not;-), besides I can't OC my system even if I wanted to. I guess I could OC the video card, but it doesn't need it.

That's decent deal for nice Dell system. Not a smoking deal but decent if you need and like the specs.

Gamingphreek, the AMD system you quoted won't own that Dell PIV system. In fact that Dell will be faster in majority of games at high resolution due to the X850XT card. A64 is lot faster at lower resolution but at 1600x1200 with aa/af, difference in A64 and PIV is extremely slim and it pretty much comes down to the videocard. X850XT is simply faster card than 6800GT and thus that Dell system will be better gaming system and multimedia machine.

There are pros and cons to build-your-own as with prebuilt like Dell. Just because it's Dell doesn't make it bad and ripoff. Many young kids think it's something special to put together a computer and simply look down on prebuilt. Why I don't know since building your own is nothing special. A trained monkey could put together a computer.

Also, there seems to be lot of AMD fanboys who thinks A64 just destroys Intel PIV at gaming when it's not really the case. Yes at low resolution like 800x600 and 1024x768 with no aa/af, A64 will dominate PIV. But who plays at that resolution with those options with this kind of hardware? At high resolution like 1600x1200 with aa/af, difference is extremely small like 1-2 frames at most and it's all about the videocard at that resolution. I mean I like AMD much as next guy and all my current systems are AMD and I haven't used Intel stuff since 80286 days but let's get real. PIV is still nice gaming processor and excellent at multimedia with its hyperthreading. I even own AMD stock but I'm not blind as to think PIV is bad gaming processor. High resolution gaming is all about the videocard and PIV with Hyperthreading is excellent general office multimedia chip. To say otherwise is to speak ignorance and blind fanboy loyalty. The part I find confusing and amusing about fanboys is that most have no financial interest or reward in the companies they blindly promote. I can understand if they own stocks or work for the company or is somehow get something financial or beneficial out of worshiping a company. I wish my company had that kind of loyal following and free advertising.

Ok. Time to throw in my 2 coppers. I was out having fun the last two nights while you guys were enjoying yourselves in the forums so I missed out on the arguments.

That Dell that was originally listed can be called warm at best. It's not a bad system nor are the specs bad. The price is merely a two or three hundred dollars off of what you can buy with a similar P4 system. The problem with Dells and their 30% off or 50% off deals is that Dell overprices their stuff anyways. I once saw a 2001FP which you can get for $700 or less for a whopping $999 as an added option on a computer from Dell. If you look around at their different computers, you'll see similar stuff. The same parts will cost different money depending on the system. Dells are never a good buy unless you are getting a good % off deal and even then most of them are at best warm deals.

That said, sometimes they do have amazing deals. $499 +tax (Dell charges tax where I live) for a P4 2.8ghz & 17" LCD is something that I can't beat in terms of pricing on a pre-built. Even I recommend such systems to the non-techie people who ask me for advice on a computer for web browsing and the like. I just tell them I'll let them know when a good deal comes up. Usually Dell has one every two weeks and then I just tell them to get that.

For the guy who's going to spend $1500-2500 for a PC. I always recommend they get a white box rather than an OEM computer. IMHO the tweakability and overclocking as well as the ability to choose the exact part you want/need far outweighs the choices given to you by Dell and the limitations they put on the ability to tweak your system.
