He said he overlapped it, I don't know what that means exactly, haha.

This CPU needs a modification to the motherboard load (Hold Down) plate to provide proper contact with the heatsink.

the motherboard is not included

The cpu is only a few months old but I over lapped it.....Don't feel like messing with the load plate so I bought a new cpu.
It runs fine without the load plate but would recommend just grinding a bit off of your load plate.

If you know enough about computers you can have a fine running i7 cpu for half the price of a new one...

If interested please Send your phone number for more info

This CPU is guaranteed to work. It worked the day i removed it.

Here is the deal. Take the cpu home and try it out. If it works come back with my money. If it won't post bring it back.

it means he sanded the shit out of the heat spreader, so much that he couldn't get it to contact the heatsink without modding something. If you can get a heat conductor to fit right inbetween it should work.

It means what iamanidiot says, you'll have a gap between the cpu and heatsink. I don't think it's worth the trouble to deal with.

it's a 920, he wants 100 bucks, I could probably lowball him for 70 or so. :p.

Why would anyone lap it...

What can I use to fill the 'gap' ?

if you have a dremel, you can cut the edges off the heatsink so that it touches the processor. This is a fine craftsmanship job though, unless you are very skilled at this, it's not worth it.

If you have the time and patience, a thin piece of aluminum will work if you can cut/sand to size. Then fill the gap with TIM.

I would do that for $100. I seriously doubt he lapped it so far down that it won't make contact with a heatsink. I removed the IHS from one, and only then did I need to remove the locking bracket.

Hey, I would do this if you're skilled. Even if you're not for 100$ I bet you could remove the damn bracket do it that way.

i think the guy messed up the lapping, the lapping job probably went thru to the core. he wants 100 for this, not sure if anyone can fix it. god knows the owner probably tried himself to fix this already to no avail.

Like I said though, what's the purpose of lapping?

It can help flatten the surface of the IHS, giving you better contact with the heatsink. It's a pretty extreme measure, but some people want every degree they can get.

Well, lapping doesn't really fix a problem, its an attempt to get more out of a CPU. Of course in this case it creates more problems than it fixes.

Yeah... well the overlapping itself isn't something to worry about, theres no way you can sand it down THAT much. I would be much more worried that a person who overlaps their CPU also overvolts and overclocks, possibly to the point of some internal damage as well.

will you ship it, i live in Massachusetts.

If you send a postal money order but there is a chance it will not work. I sold it to a guy when it was working perfectly and he brought it back and said it wouldn't boot so he either changed his mind

or he is telling the truth.......I'd hate to have to have you mail it back.

Sounds like a scam with the whole money order bit.

I have no way to test it out..it may be a bigger headache then it's worth.

Yeah, and right now you have to think. He just let someone bring it to their house and try it out. They could have fried it or jacked the chip up. Now that this 3rd party was introduced to the story this processor ain't looking so good.
