Do those use the 4A-GE engines like in the corolla GTS?
Those engines are pretty much bullet proof. I have a 4A-FE and I drive the hell out of it, still running perfectly at 186k
It looks like an excellent ride for $800!

Yeah, it's the 16valve 4A-GE. That car would be pretty badass with the 20valve and a supercharger.

fun little car for autocross for virtually no money,
check the brakes thought, not many people drive around with a bottle of brake fluid. Those Rotas = teh sex

An $800 car is an $800 car, you aren't going to be stranded without a ride to work when it breaks down. The stuff he has done to it would make me hesitate more than the age/mileage/physical condition. Its obvious that the owner has given the car a workout. For whatever reason he sunk the money for the mods into the car and now he is parting ways with it. Maybe he's tired of it, maybe he senses major engine or transmission work coming on.

I'd say buy it! Those cars run FOREVER with minimal maintenance. It should be a great autocrosser/fun little go-kart.
